Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) to ensure optimal performance and safety. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong background in mechanical and electrical systems, as well as experience with various tools and equipment. The position involves working with a diverse range of vehicles, including excavators and forklifts to HGV's and cranes. It also requires a commitment to high standards of customer service and safety. The role is predominately workshop based with the occasional breakdown. Company vehicle provided with this role. Working a week on week off Rota but is flexible depending on working hours worked in a day. Plenty of over time available. Own tools is necessary with this role, PPE will be provided.
Training courses are available on the the leading brands.
Class 1 license desirable but not essential to the role.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections and comprehensive maintenance on HGVs to identify potential issues before they develop into major problems.
- Perform repairs using fabrication, welding, soldering, electrical, and mechanical skills.
- Interpret schematics and technical diagrams to diagnose faults accurately.
- Utilise hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment for assembly, repair, and maintenance tasks.
- Repair or replace components such as engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulic parts.
- Carry out equipment repair on ancillary machinery including excavators and forklifts.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and industry standards.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding repairs and maintenance needs.
- Assist with heavy lifting tasks safely using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Have a good understanding to be capable on working on your own.
- Attend road side breakdowns on a rolling Rota.
- Competent on using diagnostics equipment.
Requirements
- Proven experience in vehicle or equipment repair, ideally within the heavy goods vehicle sector.
- Strong electrical experience combined with mechanical knowledge.
- Proficiency in reading schematics and technical diagrams.
- Skilled in fabrication, welding, soldering, and assembly processes.
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and specialised maintenance equipment.
- Experience working with heavy Vehicles.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Good organisational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong customer service skills to ensure client satisfaction. Candidates should demonstrate a proactive approach to safety protocols and possess the physical capability to handle demanding tasks associated with heavy vehicle maintenance. Pay: £32,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
