Assistant Restaurant Manager

The Greyhound Pettistree is looking for an Assistant Restaurant Manager to join our team.
We are a free house in Pettistree, Suffolk, focused on generous hospitality, high standards and quality across everything we do. Our menu changes weekly, our drinks list is considered, and we care about service that feels relaxed, personal and properly looked after.
This role is for someone with strong front of house experience in a similar restaurant, pub or food-led hospitality business. You’ll be confident on the floor, calm under pressure and able to help lead service while keeping an eye on the details that make the difference.
The role
Working closely with the Restaurant Manager, you’ll help run the restaurant and bar day to day. You’ll lead from the floor, support the team during service, manage bookings and table flow, help brief the team, and make sure guests are looked after from arrival to departure.
You’ll also take responsibility for key operational tasks, including cellar management, monthly manual stock takes, opening and closing duties, and helping maintain standards across the restaurant, bar and back-of-house areas.
What you’ll be doing
- Helping lead smooth, confident service across the restaurant and bar.
- Supporting and guiding the front of house team during service.
- Managing bookings, table plans and the flow of the room.
- Building strong knowledge of the weekly menu, wine list and drinks offer.
- Making confident food and drink recommendations.
- Training to make and serve cocktails to The Greyhound’s standards.
- Leading cellar management, organisation and upkeep.
- Carrying out a manual stock take each month.
- Communicating clearly with the kitchen, bar and front of house team.
- Handling guest feedback, questions and requests with warmth and professionalism.
- Helping keep the restaurant, bar and cellar clean, organised and ready for service.
- Supporting opening, closing and daily operational standards.
What we’re looking for
- Experience in a similar restaurant, pub or high-quality hospitality business.
- A genuine interest in food, wine, drinks and great service.
- Confidence leading from the floor and taking responsibility during service.
- A calm, organised approach when things get busy.
- Strong communication skills and good attention to detail.
- Warmth, professionalism and good energy with guests.
- Reliability, initiative and high standards.
This would suit someone already working as a senior server, supervisor or assistant manager who wants to grow with an ambitious independent business.
Non-negotiables
- Start date: July 2026.
- This is a long-term role with training and development, not holiday or out-of-term work.
- Availability to work Wednesday to Sunday, including evenings and weekends.
- Able to drive or reliably commute to The Greyhound Pettistree.
