Senior Finance Officer
Location: Hybrid – Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill and Homeworking
Salary: £36,000 - £39,000 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week
Reports to: Finance & Systems Manager

The Role
This is a hands-on role combining financial accounting, team supervision and systems/process improvement. You’ll help to ensure smooth day-to-day finance operations while improving processes and reporting. You’ll work closely with the Finance & Systems Manager and wider teams to ensure accurate reporting, strong controls, and efficient processes.
This role would suit someone looking to step up or broaden their experience in a supportive, purpose-led environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Support month-end close including journals, accruals and reconciliations
- Assist with management accounts and year-end processes
- Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation
- Prepare and submit VAT returns, ensuring compliance
Cash, Income & Transactions
- Support bank reconciliations and cashflow monitoring
- Support oversight of purchase ledger and sales income processes
- Assist with credit control and monitoring of outstanding balances
Supervision (Transactional Finance)
- Provide day-to-day supervision and support across purchase ledger, sales ledger and reconciliations
- Review work to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Support and guide team members to maintain effective processes
- Help manage workload and priorities within the team
Systems & Process Improvement
- Play a key role in improving finance systems and processes
- Support system updates, user queries, and issue resolution
- Identify and implement efficiencies to reduce manual processes
- Work with teams across the business to improve financial processes
Audit & Compliance
- Support year-end audit and respond to queries
- Ensure adherence to financial controls and procedures
Requirements:
- Part-qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) or qualified by experience
- Strong experience in Finance, including month-end processes
- Experience with VAT returns
- Experience supporting or supervising transactional finance activities
- Good Excel and finance systems skills
- Proactive, organised, and keen to improve processes
(Charity experience helpful, but not essential)
