Purpose of work
The role of the Registered Manager will be key to taking the lead in Academy House Govan. This is an opportunity to embrace the principles of the Personalisation Agenda and further develop a more flexible, person-centred approach for individuals who use day care services.
Job Purpose
The service Manager will be responsible for ensuring efficient and effective running of the day care centre. This includes monitoring, managing and supporting all staff in their various tasks which are encompassed under the following headings:
- Delivering high quality care and support services that are personalised and aligned with the keys to life strategy.
- Supporting, leading and managing a staff team of team Leaders and support staff.
- Ensuring the service’s financial sustainability, in conjunction with the directorate.
- Ensuring safety of all service users, staff and visitors to the service.
- Representing Academy House Service Govan, its values both internally and externally.
- To ensure that the principles of personalisation and best practice are promoted and reflected in the day-to-day provision of support and care services.
The role of the Registered Manager will be key to the continued development of the service. The delivery of high-quality services will enhance the profile of the organisation to Local Authorities, Care Inspectorate and other key stakeholders/partner agencies. This crucial role will necessitate a candidate who is self-motivated, forward thinking and who can lead and manage effectively to the highest professional standards.
Dimensions
The post holder will have responsibility for ensuring a high-quality service is delivered to service users via their teams.
The post holder will have extensive liaison both across and out with the organisation, including liaison with Commissioners and Care Managers, Care Inspectorate and various partner agencies.
The post holder will have responsibility for ensuring all Health and Safety legislation, including fire safety, is followed and appropriate steps are taken to ensure the health and safety of all staff and service users, volunteers, contractors and visitors.
Principal Accountabilities
To work with the senior management teams and staff team to continually develop and improve the service delivery. To be part of a management structure that seeks to devise and implement Academy House Govan Service plans and activities through effective management of their team of staff.
- To lead and manage the overall Service and work to achieve positive, meaningful outcomes for service users.
- To ensure all service users receive an individualised person-centred package of support, designed to meet their specific needs to enable each individual to achieve their full potential.
- Ensure that the outcomes for service users as agreed in their Outcome Based Support Plans are met recorded and measured.
- Ensure consistency and a high quality of care is delivered in line with the requirements of the commissioners of the service and the main regulatory bodies.
- To work closely and effectively with all partner agencies to ensure a holistic quality service is delivered to service users.
- Ensure approaches to service user and stakeholder feedback are in place that facilitate partnership working and co-production.
- To work with staff, service users and families/carers to develop increased participation in service delivery.
- Ensure Health and Safety is an integral part of project culture; and manage all aspects of Health and Safety, within job remit including the management of Fire Safety.
- Ensure equality and diversity is embraced across all aspects of service delivery.
- To provide effective leadership that provides on going mentoring, coaching and development of management and staff.
- Develop and promote a continuous learning and development culture across the Service, ensuring all staff receive appropriate supervision and performance appraisals.
- To manage and nurture staff and team performance within the parameters of internal HR policies and employment law requirements.
- Ensure HR activities, including attendance management, recruitment, discipline and grievances are effectively managed and monitored across the service.
- Audit and monitor the services activities/procedures as often as is necessary, ensuring all service returns are completed within set timescales.
- To monitor and evaluate service performance against performance Indicators and take appropriate corrective, preventative and improvement measures in response.
- Represent the organisation at external events as required.
- To produce reports and statistical information against Performance Indicators.
- Keep up to date with new developments, ideas, legislation and best practice in the social care sector. Share these with Team Leaders and staff team.
Planning and Organising
Organise and manage own workload and that of the staff team, in particular the Team Leader, to ensure that the service delivers a high quality, person centred service to all service users and that the service contributes to ensuring that Academy House strategic plans and activities are achieved.
Work will be both proactive and reactive and will require the ability to handle competing demands from within the service and from the staff team, and from the commissioning authority and social care sector regulators.
Decision Making/Use of Judgement
The job will demand a high level of interpersonal skills with the ability to engage at all levels with service users, families/carers, staff team and senior staff at Academy House Services and external professionals.
The job will require sensitivity and judgement in dealing with the often competing needs and wishes of the above groups.
Decisions will be required that will affect the lives of service users therefore the ability to either make on the spot decisions and/or seek support and advice from senior colleagues or external professionals is essential.

External: Care Managers, Care Inspectorate, Local Authority Health Professionals.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- An enthusiastic self - motivator with the ability to work in a pressurised environment.
- Experiencing working in a management role within a social care setting, preferably in a learning disabilities support service.
- Experience in managing, motivating and developing staff teams.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability, with the ability to drive improvements in service delivery
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to quickly build credibility and communicate and negotiate effectively across all levels of the service and with external agencies.
- Proactive approach, with the ability to work independently and be flexible in a changing business environment
- An ability to make decisions and clearly and concisely relay to staff teams.
- Awareness of the rights of service users in the context of legislative requirements.
- Holder of relevant management qualification – e.g. RMA, SQV 4 (care support leadership and management).
- Holder of relevant care qualification – eg Social Work, Nursing, SVQ 4.
- Budgetary management knowledge and skills.
- Excellent prioritisation, time management and organisational skills.
- IT proficient including MS Office and internet and email systems, including Outlook.
