The Vacancy
Senior Housekeeping Assistant
Are you an experienced housekeeping professional who takes pride in maintaining safe, clean and welcoming environments? Would you like to be part of a supportive team making a real difference across our hospice sites? If so, this could be the ideal opportunity for you.
Your new role!
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join our Facilities Management team as a Senior Housekeeping Assistant. In this role, you will help deliver essential housekeeping services, including cleaning, linen and laundry, across our Pembury and Five Ashes sites.
Hospice in the Weald is a well-established, multi-site charity providing care and support to people across Kent and East Sussex, with the support of our wider teams and retail network.
As Senior Housekeeping Assistant, you will play an important role in ensuring our facilities are cleaned, maintained and presented to a consistently high standard. You will support the delivery of safe, effective services in line with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025.
You will be a positive role model for colleagues, offering day-to-day guidance, support and mentoring to housekeeping team members. Your responsibilities will include undertaking cleaning and waste audits, supporting rota planning, helping ensure resources are in place, and deputising for the Active Support Co-ordinator on cleaning-related matters when required.
This is a newly created role, giving you the opportunity to help shape the future of the housekeeping service. You will contribute to the development of practical processes, systems and ways of working that support high standards, safe practice and a positive experience for everyone who uses or works within our facilities.
To succeed in this role
We are looking for an experienced, confident, organised and proactive individual who can help lead and support the efficient day-to-day running of our housekeeping team.
You will need at least three years’ healthcare experience, including working with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025.
You will have experience undertaking cleaning, efficacy and waste audits, as well as identifying and implementing corrective actions.
You will supervise day-to-day housekeeping operations, supporting the Active Support Co-ordinator and helping to maintain consistent standards across the service.
You will help ensure safe ways of working are embedded across the team, including adherence to COSHH requirements, equipment checks, method statements, colour coding and standard operating procedures.
The Company
Hospice in the Weald was founded in 1980 as a small home-care service in West Kent, born out of local community effort to support people with life-limiting illnesses.
Over the decades it has grown from those humble beginnings into a vital palliative care charity serving West Kent and northern East Sussex, expanding its services to include an in-patient ward, day services, outreach and counselling support, all free of charge, as well as innovative new provisions such as children’s care and the Cottage Hospice at Five Ashes.
Today, more than 40 years on, Hospice in the Weald continues to provide compassionate, personalised care to patients and their loved ones, celebrating life and offering dignity at the end of life for thousands in the local community.
