Transport Planner – Container Transport
Location: Stanford-Le-Hope, Essex
Salary: £35,000 - £37,875 per annum
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 45 hours per week
The Role
We are recruiting for an experienced Transport Planner to join a leading UK intermodal freight and logistics business based in Stanford-Le-Hope.
The successful Transport Planner will be responsible for container transport planning, route planning, vehicle utilisation and subcontractor coordination, supporting the efficient movement of containers across the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Transport Planner, Container Planner or Transport Coordinator with a background in container haulage, intermodal logistics or freight forwarding.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce daily transport plans in line with customer orders, operational requirements and service expectations
- Plan and coordinate container vehicle movements to maximise fleet utilisation and operational efficiency
- Allocate vehicles and resources effectively to support daily revenue targets
- Source, coordinate and manage subcontractors and haulage providers
- Negotiate subcontractor rates and transport costs
- Monitor transport requirements and make adjustments throughout the day where required
- Attend daily transport planning and operational review meetings
- Maintain high levels of customer service and delivery performance
- Work closely with other UK depots, planners and transport teams
- Support the wider intermodal and container transport operation
- Participate in a bi-weekly weekend on-call rota, providing minimal remote support from home when required. No requirement to attend site.
Key Requirements
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a Transport Planner
- Previous experience within container transport, container haulage, intermodal logistics, freight forwarding or road transport
- Strong understanding of transport/route planning and fleet utilisation
- Experience using TOPS
- Good communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
- Flexibility to participate in the weekend on-call rota when required
