Job Summary
We are seeking dedicated and reliable Skilled Factory Operatives to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidates will play a crucial role in the production process by performing tasks such as assembling & operating machinery, assembling products, monitoring quality, and maintaining cleanliness in accordance with food safety regulations, ensuring that food products are prepared, packaged, complying with health & safety regulation and delivered to the highest standards.
General Responsibilities
To carry out all duties safely, efficiently and in line with company standards, supporting the production of high-quality ham and gammon products while maintaining compliance with health and safety, food safety, quality, hygiene and People & Culture policies. The role holder is expected to work as part of the production team, follow reasonable instructions, support continuous improvement, minimise downtime and waste, and help maintain a safe, clean and compliant food manufacturing environment.
- Operate production machinery, equipment and processes used in the preparation, cooking, chilling, slicing, packing and labelling of ham and gammon products, in line with training, work instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Handle chilled meat products safely and hygienically, maintaining product integrity and preventing contamination, cross-contamination, foreign body risks and damage to product or packaging.
- Carry out product handling, preparation, packing, weighing, sealing, labelling and visual quality checks to ensure ham and gammon products meet customer specifications and site standards.
- Complete production, traceability, quality, temperature, weight, label and hygiene checks accurately, on time and in line with site procedures.
- Maintain high standards of personal hygiene, hand hygiene, PPE use, housekeeping and “clean as you go” practices within chilled food production areas.
- Identify, report and escalate any health and safety, food safety, quality, equipment, temperature, contamination, foreign body, downtime or people-related concerns promptly.
- Support line performance by working efficiently, reducing avoidable product, packaging and utility waste, minimising downtime and helping to maintain consistent product flow.
- Work flexibly across production, packing and hygiene areas as required, supporting colleagues and business needs while maintaining food safety, quality and health and safety standards.
- Participate in training, coaching and development activities and apply learning consistently in the workplace, including food safety, health and safety, manual handling and role-specific process training.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by raising ideas, supporting agreed changes and helping to improve safety, quality, efficiency, yield and waste performance.
- Follow company policies, site rules, hygiene procedures, visitor and personal item controls, and reasonable management instructions at all times.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties within the scope of the role as requested by the Production Supervisor, Shift Manager or other authorised member of management.
Qualifications / Skills
- Ideally food safety level 2
- Ideally health & safety level 2
- All accidents and near misses are reported and recorded.
