Learning Support Assistant – Secondary SEND Support

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay Rate: £93–£100 per day
Student Age Range: Key Stages 3 & 4
The Supply Room are seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join the SEND Unit of a secondary school in Weston-Super-Mare. This role is based primarily within the school's SEND department, supporting students who require additional assistance to access their education.
About the Role
Working closely with teaching staff and the SEND team, you will provide day-to-day support to students with a variety of additional needs. Many of the pupils you support will have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and you will play an important role in helping to deliver the strategies and interventions outlined within them.
Key Duties
- Support students with SEND to engage positively with learning
- Assist teachers in delivering lessons and maintaining a productive classroom environment
- Prepare resources and learning materials as required
- Encourage student participation and help maintain focus during lessons
- Implement support strategies identified within EHCPs
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and the SENDCo
- Deliver targeted interventions
- Provide emotional reassurance and positive behaviour support where needed
- Adapt your approach to meet the individual needs of different learners
Candidate Requirements
We are keen to hear from individuals who are passionate about helping young people succeed. Previous experience working with children or young adults is highly desirable, and this will ideally have been obtained through working in mainstream or specialist schools. We are also interested in hearing from candidates with more diverse experiences that may have been gained through youth work, residential childcare, sports coaching or mentoring.
While formal qualifications are not essential, training or certifications related to education, SEND, child development, or behaviour support will strengthen your application.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position.
