The Swiss Cottage Hotel, a charming 60-bedroom Victorian hotel, is looking for an experienced and hands-on Maintenance Supervisor to join our team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled maintenance professional who takes pride in maintaining historic buildings while ensuring the hotel operates safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. You will work closely with one Maintenance Assistant and play a key role in maintaining the condition, comfort, and character of our property.
Key Responsibilities
- Take a hands-on approach to the day-to-day maintenance of the hotel, including guest bedrooms, public areas, plant rooms, and historic features.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of one Maintenance staff, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve a range of maintenance issues, with a strong understanding of electrical, plumbing, heating, and general building systems.
- Carry out routine inspections and preventative maintenance to identify potential issues before they become costly problems.
- Develop and maintain effective preventative maintenance schedules to minimise disruption and extend the life of the hotel's infrastructure and equipment.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies, prioritising guest comfort, safety, and business continuity.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and outstanding works.
- Work closely with hotel management and external contractors when specialist support is required.
- Assist management with refurbishment, improvement, and capital expenditure projects.
- Ensure all maintenance work is carried out in accordance with relevant health and safety requirements, legislation, and hotel procedures.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a minimum of 3 years' experience in hotel maintenance, facilities management, building maintenance, or a related field.
- Is confident working hands-on and has practical experience across electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance.
- Has strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose faults in an older property.
- Is organised, reliable, proactive, and able to work independently.
- Has previous experience supervising or coordinating other maintenance staff.
- Is comfortable working in a fast-paced hotel environment where priorities can change quickly.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and can build positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors, management, and guests.
- Takes pride in maintaining high standards and pays close attention to detail.
- Understands the importance of working sensitively within a historic Victorian building and preserving its unique character.
