Happiest at Home provides dedicated, home caresupport to clients, to enable them to have an excellent quality of life in their own home. You will be seeing the same client every week and their is a description of this client and their needs below.
The Client
The client is a lovely 42-year-old lady who is autistic, has several mental health diagnosis, ADHD and chronic pain syndrome. She is fully mobile, however over exertion can trigger her chronic pain flares, and she gets daily fatigue.
She communicates verbally but may become non-verbal in high stress environments, experiencing sensory overload, if overwhelmed, having a meltdown or if she is mentally fatigued from appointments or social situations. She may require information to be repeated at times, and due to her poor memory she may require the CarePal to take notes and give them to her in a bullet point format later. The client has strong sensory needs and can become very overwhelmed in busy environments, around strong smells, high temperatures, or when communicating with people with strong accents- so requires someone who can be reactive when this occurs and read her cues. As a CarePal for this clint you have training and/or experience in supporting individuals on the autism spectrum, with mental health conditions and ADHD.
She lives alone in her flat, and she requires support with managing and completing her daily living tasks, such as, attending appointments, planning meals, shopping and cooking, admin/phone calls and completing household tasks. A long-term goal of the client’s is to start attending more activities, going to the gym, and going on nice walk etc. The client also used to attend a weekly choir group which she enjoyed greatly. This will take some building up to as the client has not had support before and it will take her some time to adjust to having someone around her and in her home.
The client struggles significantly with meal planning, this is due to food anxiety, eating disorder, food intolerances, the stress that supermarkets cause etc. The CarePal must have understanding/training and sensitivity in these subjects.
The client needs a CarePal who has a car, for safe transport to and from appointments, can support her with communication when required, advocate for her complex needs, plan for exit strategies, has good time management.
Overall, the client is looking for a CarePal she can build a relationship with, confide in when she is feeling low, and build life skills with over time. The right CarePal for this client will gently encourage her and empathise with her when needed, it is important that she does not feel judged or nagged.
