We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and highly motivated Learning Mentor to join our supportive and successful school Inclusion Team. This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and families and removing barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities

Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and staff, acting as a key point of communication between home and school
- Support families in understanding their child’s sensory, emotional and learning needs, progress and wellbeing
- Provide targeted emotional and social interventions to support pupils with additional needs
- Conduct outreach work to engage vulnerable families and those requiring additional support
- Work closely with the Inclusion Manager, Autism Resource Base teacher, class teachers and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to pupil support
- Support pupils in managing behaviour and developing positive strategies for learning and social interaction
- Plan, monitor and review interventions to ensure measurable impact on pupils’ progress and wellbeing
- Promote and uphold the school’s ethos, values and inclusive culture
The Ideal Candidate Will:

Relationship building — Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust quickly and work sensitively with diverse families.
- Autism support experience — Provide structured, person‑centred support to verbal and pre-verbal autistic children and young people, using visual communication systems, predictable routines and sensory‑aware strategies to reduce anxiety and increase engagement.
- Complex behavioural needs — Work confidently with pupils presenting high‑risk behaviours, sensory and emotional dysregulation and trauma‑linked responses, implementing proactive and reactive behaviour plans grounded in positive behaviour support.
- Multi‑agency collaboration — Coordinate effectively with psychologists, social workers, SENCOs and families to ensure consistent, safe and supportive interventions.
- De‑escalation expertise — Apply evidence‑based de‑escalation techniques, including low‑arousal approaches, co‑regulation and safe crisis management.
- Progress tracking — Monitor behavioural patterns, triggers and developmental progress using structured observation tools and reflective practice.
- Holistic understanding — Demonstrate a strong understanding of children’s educational, emotional, social and welfare needs.
- Experience with additional needs — Be experienced in supporting children with challenging behaviour, autism, SEMH and a range of additional needs.
- Knowledge of best practice — Have sound knowledge of best practice in supporting medical, social, communication and safeguarding needs.
- Organisation and initiative — Be organised, proactive and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Professional development — Be committed to continuous professional development, reflective practice and maintaining high standards.
- Resilience and passion — Show resilience, emotional intelligence and a genuine passion for supporting children and families.
