Job Summary
Baileys Horse Feeds are an independent, family-owned company who have been specialising in manufacturing premium horse feed for the last 40 years at their own mill in rural north Essex.
We are seeking a highly organised and experienced Assistant Transport Manager to support our logistics and transportation operations.
Reporting directly to the Transport Manager, you will assist in the day-to-day management of our transport and warehouse function and play a key role in ensuring the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of our fleet.
Responsibilities:
To assist in the following areas:
- managing daily transport operations to ensure efficient and compliant fleet performance.
- Ensure all members of the logistics team always conform to relevant legislation and procedures.
- Oversee vehicle maintenance, servicing, inspections, and fleet availability.
- Ensure compliance with Operator Licence requirements and transport regulations.
- Monitor transport performance, including delivery times, vehicle utilisation, and driver performance.
- Handle transport-related incidents and resolve operational issues promptly.
- Supervise warehouse operations daily to ensure efficient resource allocation for picking, stock rotation and loading/unloading of vehicles.
- Support driver and warehouse recruitment, onboarding, training, and development.
- Promote the departments engagement and retention through effective communication and performance management.
- Assist with the ongoing development of transport operations
Skills
- Previous experience in a Transport Management or similar role.
- Experience managing a multi-drop distribution operation.
- Strong knowledge of fleet management, vehicle compliance, and transport legislation.
- Advanced Excel skills, with experience producing reports and analysing operational data and KPIs.
- Proven experience leading, managing, and developing driver and warehouse teams.
- Strong reporting and analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends and drive improvements.
- Proactive and hands-on approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced transport and logistics environment.
Desirable
- Valid Transport Manager CPC qualification.
- HGV Licence
- Counterbalance FLT Licence.
Pay: £45,000.00 per year
