GSS is seeking an experienced Secondary Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of transmission and distribution projects.
The role is suited to an engineer with experience in protection, control, automation and substation secondary systems. Experience with National Grid, SPEN, DNOs or other power network clients would be highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and review secondary electrical designs for substation and power infrastructure projects.
- Develop schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, termination schedules and protection/control design documentation.
- Support protection, control, SCADA, telecoms and automation interfaces across project designs.
- Coordinate with primary, civil, commissioning, project and client teams to ensure integrated design delivery.
- Prepare technical queries, design submissions and responses to client comments.
- Support procurement, panel build, installation, testing and commissioning activities where required.
- Ensure designs meet client standards, safety requirements and project delivery objectives.
Experience & Skills
Secondary electrical design experience within transmission and distribution, substations or power infrastructure.
Experience working with protection and control systems, SCADA/RTU interfaces, IEDs and panel wiring documentation.
- Knowledge of utility standards, ideally including National Grid, SPEN or DNO requirements.
- Ability to produce clear technical drawings, schedules and design deliverables.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with multidisciplinary design and delivery teams.
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent electrical engineering experience would be beneficial.
