The Cottage Inn in Haxby has opened and the food is a success. But our temp opening chefs will be moving on at the end of the month, so it's time to establish our permanent kitchen team. We need a head chef, and every other role, in our kitchen. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Chef to help recruit and lead our culinary team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of food preparation and kitchen operations, ensuring the delivery of exceptional dining experiences. This role requires strong leadership, culinary expertise, and a passion for hospitality. The Head Chef will play a pivotal role in maintaining high standards of food safety, quality, and service across our establishment. This is not a simple job, we need to work with a basic kitchen set up that needs extra equipment and time to build a great kitchen again. Do you want to make a kitchen your own? Duties
- Lead and supervise the kitchen team, including chefs and kitchen assistants, to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality food production
- Plan and develop innovative menus that align with the restaurant’s concept and customer preferences
- Oversee daily food preparation, cooking, and presentation to ensure consistency and excellence
- Manage inventory, order supplies, and control food costs to optimise profitability
- Enforce strict adherence to food safety regulations and hygiene standards
- Train staff on food preparation techniques, safety procedures, and customer service standards
- Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery
- Monitor kitchen operations during service hours to maintain efficiency and quality standards
- Maintain a positive working environment that promotes teamwork, motivation, and professional development
Qualifications
- Proven supervising experience within a professional kitchen environment
- Extensive culinary experience with a strong background in food production and preparation
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse team effectively
- Solid knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene management
- Experience working in a restaurant or hospitality setting is highly desirable
- Strong skills in cooking, food presentation, and menu development
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure
- Good communication skills to coordinate with team members and front-of-house staff
- Previous experience serving customers or in hospitality roles is advantageous
