Job Title: Payroll Assistant
Location: Lincoln
Hours: Part-time and full-time considered (hours can be discussed). Must be able to work on a Friday.
Salary: £28,000+ (FTE if applicable)
Job Overview
To support the efficient and accurate processing of client payrolls within an accountancy practice. The role involves ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations, maintaining payroll records, and providing excellent service to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly and monthly payrolls for a portfolio of clients
- Calculate wages, salaries, bonuses, statutory payments (SSP, SMP, etc.), and deductions
- Submit RTI (Real Time Information) returns to HMRC
- Manage auto-enrolment pension submissions and communications
- Handle starters and leavers, including P45s and onboarding details
- Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data
- Respond to client payroll queries in a timely and professional manner
- Ensure compliance with current payroll legislation and best practices
- Assist with year-end procedures including P60s and P11Ds (if applicable)
- Liaise with HMRC and pension providers when required
- Processing and submission of monthly CIS returns
- Processing of CIS reclaims
Skills and Experience Required
- Previous payroll experience (preferably within an accountancy practice or bureau)
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
- Experience using payroll software (e.g. Sage, BrightPay, Xero Payroll, or similar)
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to manage multiple client payrolls and deadlines
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of auto-enrolment pensions
- Experience of CIS processing
- Ability to do manual calculations alongside using software
