Job Role: Health and Safety Officer
Location: Milton Keynes, onsite, full-time
The Role:
Reporting to the QHSE Manager, the Health & Safety Officer will be responsible for the development, maintenance and continual improvement of the Company's Health & Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with ISO 45001 and all applicable UK legislation.
Working closely with managers and employees across all departments, the role will drive a positive health and safety culture, provide professional advice, coaching and guidance, support operational activities, and ensure the business maintains a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors and visitors.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative, proactive and passionate health and safety professional who enjoys working with people across all areas of the business. They will support colleagues, build positive relationships, share knowledge and help create a workplace where everyone feels safe, valued and empowered to contribute to continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:

Manage, maintain, communicate and continually improve the Company Health & Safety Management System in accordance with ISO 45001 requirements.

Ensure ongoing compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation, regulations and industry best practice.

Monitor changes in legislation and assess impacts on the business, implementing necessary changes where required.

Liaise with external auditors, certification bodies and regulatory authorities to maintain compliance and certification standards.

Support and perform internal and external ISO audits, record findings and ensure timely closure of findings and non-conformances.

Carry out workplace inspections and compliance checks, including area safety inspections, first aid and emergency equipment checks, and workplace patrols. Record findings, communicate improvements and ensure timely closure of actions and non-conformances.

Assume the Chief Fire Warden position, responsible for site Fire Safety, working with Facilities department, Fire Wardens and colleagues to maintain and improve emergency preparedness arrangements, conduct emergency drills and also ensure First Aid provisions remain compliant.

Coordinate and facilitate the Health & Safety committee.

Champion a positive health and safety culture by engaging colleagues, facilitating safety awareness initiatives, encouraging participation and supporting continuous improvement projects.

Promote employee involvement in health and safety matters and encourage proactive reporting of hazards, near misses and improvement ideas.

Provide professional health and safety advice and guidance to managers and employees at all levels of the organisation.

Investigate any Health & Safety incidents, concerns and accidents/near misses/illnesses and drive the improvements to conclusions.

Produce regular Health & Safety performance reports, metrics and analysis for management review, to reduce risk and improve performance.
- Facilitate Risk Assessments, Method Statements, COSHH assessments and Safe Systems of Work within the company, due to new requirements/hazards or yearly reviews.

Assist with evaluation of contractor risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) ensuring compliance with company rules and processes.

Support occupational health programmes and employee wellbeing initiatives.

To carry out all required processes and functions in an accurate and timely manner.

Create H&S documentation, such as all employee communications, procedures and policies, toolbox talks and ensure training records maintained for compliance.

Deliver or facilitate Health & Safety training to employees and managers.

To provide customers, both internal and external, with a high standard of customer service
- To attend presentations, courses and exhibitions relevant to the responsibilities listed
Essential skills and experience:
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent recognised qualification).
- IOSH Membership (minimum TechIOSH or working towards).
- Demonstrable experience managing or supporting Health & Safety Management Systems.
- Knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and application within the workplace.
- Experience conducting accident and incident investigations, including root cause analysis.
- Experience developing and delivering Health & Safety training and toolbox talks.
- Strong communication, influencing and coaching skills.
- Ability to build relationships across all levels of an organisation.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently, flexibly and prioritise workload effectively.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications and maintaining intranet pages.
- Evidence of successfully driving Health & Safety improvements and cultural change.
- Right to work within the UK.
Desired skills and experience:
- NEBOSH Diploma or working towards.
- Experience within a manufacturing and warehousing environment.
- Experience maintaining ISO 45001 Management Systems.
- Internal Auditor qualification.
- Knowledge of compressed air systems, CNC machining operations, forklift truck operations and company vehicle fleet safety management.
- Experience managing contractor safety and permit-to-work processes.
- Experience using SolutionHost or equivalent management systems.
- Experience supporting occupational health and wellbeing programmes.
