We are looking for an experienced and organised Training & Development Officer to join our team at My Homecare Gloucester.
This is a varied role combining staff training, competency assessment and development, working closely with our Recruitment Officer and Care Management Team to ensure our workforce remains appropriately trained, competent and compliant.
We are open to both full-time and part-time applicants, with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week.
The Role
The Training & Development Officer will take responsibility for coordinating, delivering and monitoring staff training across the organisation, from new starter induction through to ongoing refresher training and competency assessments.
You will also support the ongoing compliance of employee files, ensuring required documentation, training and employment records remain complete and up to date.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Development
- Organise and deliver the induction programme for new Care Workers.
- Deliver face-to-face training including: Medication, Moving & Handling, staff Induction
- Coordinate and monitor mandatory e-learning for new starters.
- Monitor refresher training requirements for existing staff and ensure training is renewed within the required timescales.
- Maintain accurate training records and monitor the organisation's training matrix.
- Identify upcoming expiries, gaps in training and areas requiring additional staff development.
- Work with the management team to continually improve the organisation's training and induction programme.
Competency & Quality Monitoring
- Undertake staff competency assessments, particularly in: Medication administration, Moving & Handling, PPE donning & doffing and safe working practices
- Complete competency observations following training and where additional support or reassessment is required.
- Carry out staff spot checks in the community to monitor practice and ensure expected standards are being maintained.
- Provide constructive feedback and identify where further training, supervision or competency assessment may be required.
- Maintain clear records of competency assessments and spot checks.
Staff Compliance
- Monitor employee files to ensure required documentation remains complete and compliant.
- Ensure documents such as driving licences, vehicle documentation, right-to-work evidence and other required records remain current and are renewed where necessary.
- Complete regular staff-file compliance checks and follow up outstanding documentation.
- Support the maintenance of accurate HR and personnel records.
- Work alongside the Recruitment Officer to support the transition of new employees from recruitment through induction, training and deployment.
- Work closely with the Care Management Team to respond to training, competency and compliance needs identified through day-to-day operations.
About You
To be considered for this position, you must have previous experience delivering training within adult social care.
You will also need:
- A recognised training, teaching or assessing qualification.
- Experience delivering training to adult social care staff.
- Good knowledge and practical experience of medication and Moving & Handling within a care environment.
- Experience assessing staff competency and providing constructive feedback.
- A good understanding of compliance requirements within adult social care.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage training schedules, renewals and deadlines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence delivering training to groups as well as supporting staff individually.
- Good IT skills and confidence using electronic training and HR systems.
- The ability to work collaboratively with recruitment, care management and operational colleagues.
Experience within domiciliary care would be particularly advantageous.
Working Hours
We are happy to consider applicants looking for either:
- Full-time hours, or
- Part-time hours from a minimum of 20 hours per week.
There can be flexibility around working patterns for the right candidate, although the successful applicant will need to be available at times that enable them to deliver staff training, competency assessments and community-based spot checks and within core office hours.
