We're a Forest Hill greengrocer that grew into a coffee counter, a veg-box round and a small farm shop, all run by people who genuinely care how a tomato is stacked. We're looking for someone to open up in the mornings and be one of the friendly faces behind the counter.
This is a job for an early riser who takes pride in a shop that looks its best. You'd be the first one in, turning a quiet, dark shop into somewhere people want to walk into, then keeping it that way through the day while you look after customers.
What you'd be doing
Most mornings start the same way: you unlock, switch on the lights and the coffee machine, and get the shop ready for the day. That means setting out the produce so it looks as good as it tastes, putting the signs out, getting the till going, and having everything sorted before the first customer arrives.
After that, the day is a mix of:
- Serving customers — on the till, weighing and bagging produce, making coffee, and being genuinely helpful while you do it. A lot of our customers are regulars, and they come back partly for the welcome.
- Keeping the shop right — tidy, clean, fully stocked and well presented from open to close. Refilling, facing up, rotating stock so the freshest food sells, and clearing anything past its best.
- Mucking in — taking in deliveries, helping pack the odd veg box when it's busy, and the general jobs that keep a small shop running.
You'd report to our General Manager and work alongside a small, close-knit team.
You
You're reliable: the sort of person who turns up, on time, every time, because other people are counting on you to open the doors. You're warm with customers and happy to chat. You take pride in how things look and won't walk past a wonky display. You're trustworthy with keys and cash, and comfortable opening up on your own. A bit of retail, café or hospitality experience helps, but the right attitude matters more — we can teach the rest.
Being straight with you
The mornings are early, the work is on your feet, and there's lifting involved; produce arrives in crates and they aren't light. Weekends are part of it. If you like a slow start to the day, this isn't the one for you. If you'd rather be busy, useful, and done by mid-afternoon, you'll like it here.
What you get
A friendly team and a shop people are fond of. £12.71 to £13.21 per hour. The best coffee on the street and a proper staff discount on your fruit and veg. And the quiet satisfaction of handing the shop over each day better than you found it.
