Location: Field-based across the UK, reporting to our head office in Preston, Lancashire
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Hourly Rate - £14
Contract: Permanent
About the role
Gym Gear is looking for a practical, reliable and customer-focused Service Engineer to join our expanding UK service team.
You will travel to customer sites to service, maintain, diagnose and repair a wide range of commercial fitness equipment. This includes cardiovascular machines, strength equipment and other specialist gym products from various manufacturers.
Previous experience working with gym equipment would be beneficial, but it is not essential. We welcome applicants with transferable mechanical or electrical skills from areas such as field service, white goods, vending machines, automotive repair, machinery maintenance or similar technical roles. Product-specific training will be provided.
This is a varied, hands-on position that requires good problem-solving skills, a professional approach and the ability to work independently while representing Gym Gear at customer sites.
Main responsibilities
- Attending customer sites to complete planned servicing, repairs and equipment inspections.
- Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults across different makes and models of fitness equipment.
- Completing repairs safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
- Clearly explaining faults, repairs and recommendations to customers.
- Accurately completing service reports and other required documentation.
- Managing van stock and ensuring commonly used parts are available.
- Keeping the company vehicle, tools and equipment clean, organised and in good condition.
- Completing regular vehicle safety and condition checks.
- Communicating with the service team regarding job progress, parts requirements and follow-up work.
When required, you may also support other areas of the business. This could include assembling equipment, preparing refurbished equipment, assisting with installations and helping to organise spare parts.
About you
You will be comfortable using hand and power tools and will have practical experience in a repair, maintenance, installation or engineering environment.
You should have:
- Good mechanical aptitude and fault-finding ability.
- Basic electrical fault-finding experience or a willingness to learn.
- A polite, professional and customer-focused approach.
- The ability to manage your own workload and use your initiative.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel throughout the UK and stay away from home when required.
Experience servicing commercial fitness equipment is desirable, but candidates with suitable transferable skills will also be considered.
Travel and working arrangements
The role is primarily field-based and involves regular travel to customer locations. There will occasionally be early starts, late finishes and overnight hotel stays, depending on the location and nature of the work.
A company van and tools will be provided. Business travel and approved accommodation costs will be paid by the company, together with an overnight allowance to cover evening meals and breakfast.
Applicants should be able to travel reliably to our Preston head office when required.
What we offer
- Company van and tools.
- Initial and ongoing product training.
- Paid business travel and accommodation.
