CAD Designer / Surveyor – Architectural Metalwork
Location: Stanley, County Durham (DH9 9XF)
Salary: Circa £35,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Contract: Permanent, Full Time
Hours: 39.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (flexible working considered)
About Steelcraft
Steelcraft is a specialist designer, manufacturer and installer of architectural metalwork, delivering high-quality mild steel solutions including railings, gates, balconies, stair balustrades and bespoke fabricated products throughout the UK.
As we continue to develop the business, we are looking for an experienced CAD Designer to join our team. This is a varied, hands-on role that would particularly suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of projects from initial survey through to manufacture and installation.
The Role
Working alongside our customers, production and installation teams, you will produce accurate manufacturing drawings and technical information for a wide range of bespoke architectural metalwork projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out site surveys and measuring works where required.
- Producing detailed 2D CAD drawings for customer approval and manufacture.
- Developing practical fabrication solutions for bespoke metalwork.
- Producing material requisitions, cutting lists and supporting documentation.
- Liaising with customers, suppliers and internal departments throughout the project lifecycle.
- Providing technical support to the workshop and installation teams.
- Working closely with colleagues across the wider Group on larger or specialist projects.
About You
You will be an experienced CAD professional with a background in fabrication or architectural metalwork and the confidence to work independently while managing multiple projects.
Ideally, you will have:
- Experience using AutoCAD LT (essential).
- Previous experience designing architectural metalwork such as railings, gates, staircases or balconies (essential).
- Experience carrying out site surveys and producing accurate measured drawings (highly desirable).
- Good understanding of fabrication and manufacturing processes.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
- Competent IT skills and good mathematical ability.
Experience using SolidWorks or other 3D CAD packages would be advantageous but is not essential.
Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE Mathematics (Grade 4/C or above, or equivalent).
- Good standard of written and spoken English.
Desirable
- CAD or Engineering qualification.
- Additional engineering or fabrication-related qualifications.
