Job Title: Post 16 Teaching Assistant

We are looking for a committed and compassionate Teaching assistant to support pupils aged 16+ with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role is central to helping young people develop their confidence, independence and skills they need before stepping into adulthood. You will work within a specialised environment that supports pupils in learning, emotional wellbeing and building positive relationships.
The Role
Within this role as a Post 16 Teaching Assistant, your work will involve both academic and vocational learning, life-skills development, and emotional regulation support for pupils. As part of a dedicated team, you will support learners with a wide range of needs, including Autism, Complex learning difficulties, Trauma-related barriers and Mental Health challenges.
Within this role, you will:
- Assist in delivering learning programs that focus on functional skills, employability, independence, and wellbeing.
- Promote independence through practical life-skills, such as travel training, budgeting, personal organisation, and community engagement.
- Model positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and professional boundaries at all times.
- Support students during work experience, vocational activities and community-based learning
- Work closely with teachers, support staff and external professionals to implement EHCP outcomes
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate would have knowledge and experience of working with young people with SEND and SEMH needs. Candidates may have similar experience from different fields such as counselling, support workers, nursing and care settings.
- Has experience supporting young people with SEND (Post-16, SEN school, college, care or support settings)
- Understands or is willing to learn about Autism, learning difficulties and complex needs
- Is patient, compassionate and confident supporting young people with varying levels of independence
- Can build positive, professional relationships with learners
- A genuine passion for helping vulnerable young people develop independence and move confidently into adulthood.

Monday - Friday
8:30am - 3:30pm

As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
Pay: £94.00-£115.00 per day
