Looking for care work that actually changes lives — not just shifts that fill a rota?
At RD Support Space, our Enabling Support Workers don't "do for" ,the people we support ,— they "do with." That difference is everything. It's the difference between cooking someone's dinner and teaching them to cook their own, between driving someone to a coffee shop and helping them feel confident enough to go on their own next week. If that's the kind of work you want to do, read on.
About the Role
We are looking for resilient, proactive, and motivated Enabling Support Workers to join our community-based team in Exeter and the surrounding Devon area. Unlike traditional care, enabling is about building capability, confidence, and independence. Every shift is an opportunity to help someone take a step closer to the life they want.
We are committed to long-term consistency. The people we support thrive on familiar faces and predictable routines, so we are looking for staff who can commit to building genuine, trusted relationships over time — not just passing through.
What You'll Be Doing
Your objective is to provide high-quality, person-centred support that promotes independence and social inclusion. Day to day, that means:
- Outcome-focused support: Helping service users build life skills such as budgeting, cooking, shopping, using public transport, and managing daily routines.
- Community access: Using your own vehicle to support service users in accessing social activities, employment, education, healthcare, and leisure across Exeter and Devon.
- Positive behaviour support: Implementing agreed strategies that encourage emotional regulation, resilience, and well-being.
- Administrative integrity: Maintaining accurate progress notes against agreed goals and keeping compliance documentation audit-ready.
- Working in partnership: Liaising with families, social workers, healthcare professionals, and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver joined-up care.
What We're Looking For
- Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle — non-negotiable for this community-based role. Business-use insurance and mileage paid.
- Reliability and resilience — our service users depend on consistency. We need people who turn up, follow through, and don't shy away when things get tough.
- A values-based approach — patience, encouragement, and a genuine "can-do" attitude. We can teach skills; we can't teach character.
- Strong communication — able to talk clearly and respectfully with service users, families, and health professionals, and to write accurate, professional notes.
- Right to work in the UK — we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
Previous experience in care, support work, education, mental health, or working with vulnerable adults is welcomed but not essential — attitude and reliability matter more. Full induction and training are provided.
What We Offer
- £13.10 per hour — above the Real Living Wage.
- Paid mileage for community travel.
- Paid induction and ongoing training — including positive behaviour support, safeguarding, and specialist modules.
- Regular supervision and reflective practice — you're not on your own.
- Genuine career progression into senior support, lead practitioner, and team leader roles.
- Pension scheme and statutory entitlements.
- Predictable, plannable rotas — we match shifts to your availability and the same service users wherever possible.
- A small-team feel with the backing of an established, professionally-run organisation.
