An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dedicated SEN Teacher to join a specialist secondary school in Barnet. The school supports pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and complex needs, providing a nurturing and inclusive environment where every pupil is encouraged to achieve their full potential.
The successful candidate will teach a small class of 6–7 pupils across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, supported by four Teaching Assistants. Pupils present with a range of complex learning needs, including autism and behaviours that can challenge. The class is currently well-established with clear routines and strong support systems in place.
Although a secondary setting, the school uses a primary-style model, enabling teachers to build strong relationships and provide consistent support to their class.
The Role
- Plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons tailored to individual needs and EHCP outcomes.
- Support pupils' academic, social, emotional and communication development.
- Promote independence, functional skills and preparation for adulthood.
- Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, therapists, families and external professionals.
- Monitor progress and adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.
- Create a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment where pupils can thrive.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Has experience working with pupils with SLD, ASC, PMLD or other complex learning needs.
- Is passionate about improving outcomes for young people with SEND.
- Can adapt learning creatively to meet a wide range of needs and abilities.
- Has strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
- Is calm, patient and resilient.
- Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Additional Information
