The University of Bedfordshire is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Games Design and Creative Media to join its School of Computing, Engineering and Creative Industries at an exciting point of growth and transformation. This is a broad, practice-focused role supporting teaching, project supervision and curriculum development across Games, Computer Animation and Visual Effects, Media, Film, and the wider Creative Technologies portfolio.
The post will contribute to established undergraduate provision, as well as the School’s new MA Games Art and MSc Games Design programmes. You will help shape an engaging, contemporary and industry-relevant student experience aligned with the University’s Career-Powered Education approach.

The Role:
- Deliver high-quality, student-centred teaching across Games Design, Games Development, Creative Media and related subject areas.
- Design and develop engaging learning materials, practical activities and assessments that reflect current professional practice.
- Contribute to curriculum development, course enhancement and quality assurance across undergraduate and postgraduate provision.
- Support students through academic guidance, project supervision, assessment feedback and personal tutoring.
- Engage in research, knowledge exchange, consultancy or professional practice appropriate to your expertise.
- Work with colleagues and external partners to strengthen employer engagement, live briefs, events, competitions and other practice-based opportunities.
- Contribute to the wider academic, administrative and collaborative work of the School.
About you:
We are looking for an enthusiastic academic or experienced practitioner with strong expertise in Games Design and/or Games Development and the ability to contribute across a broader Creative Media portfolio (e.g. Media and Film (post) Production). Relevant expertise may include game design theory and practice, prototyping and playtesting, level or systems design, UI/UX, accessibility, game engines and scripting, computer animation and visual effects, immersive technologies, digital content production, video or post-production.
You will normally have:
- A good honours degree and postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline; a doctorate, relevant professional qualification or equivalent professional experience and standing.
- Advanced subject knowledge and an understanding of current developments in Games, Creative Media and their application to professional practice.
- Experience of teaching, training or presenting complex concepts effectively to groups of different sizes and backgrounds.
- Evidence of engagement in research, consultancy, industry practice or other high-level professional activity.
- Strong communication, organisation, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
- A commitment to inclusive, high-quality and student-centred learning.
- The flexibility and willingness to maintain current professional knowledge, broaden your expertise and contribute to activity across the School.
- Experience of Higher Education teaching, curriculum development, online learning, research publication or income generation, and HEA Fellowship (or willingness to obtain it) would be advantageous.
