About the Role
Buraq Estates is seeking an experienced and proactive Handyman / Property Maintenance Operative to manage day-to-day repairs and upkeep across our residential portfolio. This is a hands-on role requiring a reliable individual with a strong all-round skillset and the ability to maintain properties to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities General Maintenance
- Carry out routine and reactive maintenance across tenanted and vacant properties
- Diagnose faults quickly and carry out effective repairs
- Conduct basic property inspections to identify maintenance issues early
- Ensure properties are safe, compliant, and presentable at all times
Plumbing
- Repair leaks, replace taps, fix toilets, unblock sinks and drains
- Install and replace basic plumbing fixtures (sinks, taps, shower fittings)
- Identify water pressure issues and minor pipework faults
Electrical (Basic)
- Replace light fittings, sockets, and switches
- Change fuse spurs and carry out minor electrical fault finding
- Test and replace smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
Heating & Systems
- Bleed radiators and resolve heating inefficiencies
- Replace thermostats and radiator valves or replacement or repair copper pipes.
- Carry out basic checks on boilers and heating systems (reporting major faults)
Joinery / Carpentry
- Repair and adjust doors, locks, hinges, and handles
- Fit skirting boards, shelves, and basic kitchen fittings
- Minor repairs to cupboards, worktops, and wardrobes
Decorating
- Painting walls, ceilings, doors, and woodwork
- Preparing surfaces including sanding, filling, and patch plastering
- Carry out touch-ups between tenancies to maintain standards
Property Turnaround (Void Works)
- Prepare properties for new tenants including full maintenance checks
- Deep maintenance resets (repairs, painting, minor upgrades)
- Work to deadlines to ensure properties are ready for occupancy
External & General Duties
- Basic garden tidying, waste removal, and jet washing where required
- Gutter clearing and minor exterior repairs
- Assist with moving, installing, or removing appliances if needed
Coordination & Reporting
- Report major issues that require specialist contractors
- Liaise with office staff regarding job updates and priorities
- Keep records of work completed and materials used
- Maintain tools, van stock (if applicable), and storage in an organised manner
Requirements
- Minimum 3–4 years’ hands-on experience in property maintenance or handyman work
- Strong multi-trade skills across plumbing, electrical, joinery, and decorating
- Good understanding of residential property maintenance standards
- Ability to work independently and manage workload efficiently
- Professional attitude when dealing with tenants and team members
- Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle preferred
- Mon to Friday 9:30am till 5:30pm
- Emergency call outs are paid double hourly rate.
- Two Saturdays a month 10am till 2pm
- Overtime available.
