The Role and Candidate
The BOH Stock Manager leads the back-of-house stock operation, taking ownership of stock accuracy, receiving deliveries, stockroom organisation and shrinkage control. This is a hands-on role, working closely with the VM Team, Floor Managers and sales floor team to ensure product moves efficiently from delivery through to the customer, while keeping the stockroom compliant, organised and audit-ready at all times.
The position requires an experienced, commercially minded retail leader who can take ownership of stock performance within a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The BOH Stock Manager helps translate company stock and loss-prevention standards into daily execution, acting as the link between the stockroom and the shop floor.
A key focus of this role is leading, coaching and developing the BOH team, and role-modelling an organised, accountable culture that supports the wider store's performance. The BOH Stock Manager also works cross-functionally with store leadership and stakeholders to support stock-related business goals, deliveries and seasonal initiatives.
This position plays an important role in protecting stock accuracy and availability, helping to set the benchmark for operational excellence behind the scenes of the store.
Responsibilities
- Own stock file accuracy across the store, managing faulty stock, supplier returns, and raising SKU discrepancies with the buying and management teams.
- Run cycle counts and physical stock checks, ensuring audits are accurate and discrepancies are kept to a minimum.
- Deliver against stock loss and shrinkage KPIs by putting in place clear action plans and processes.
- Manage the team to process deliveries efficiently, including receiving, checking
- Oversee put away and stockroom organisation, ensuring products are labelled and stored so the floor team can find and replenish them quickly.
- Regularly review stockroom layout to maximise capacity, working with the sales floor team on better replenishment workflows.
- Provide daily updates to store and department managers on stock position, new lines, and any issues affecting stock holding.
- Act as the link between BOH and FOH teams, ensuring smooth handoffs and shared visibility of stock.
- Manage, coach, and develop the BOH team, giving regular feedback and building development plans that recognise talent and address gaps.
- Ensure full compliance with trading standards, health and safety legislation, and store operating procedures — including clear escape routes and walkways, unobstructed sprinklers, and appropriate equipment in BOH areas
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience managing stock operations and a team within a fast-paced, high-volume retail environment.
- Strong leadership, coaching and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Commercially minded and results-driven, with a strong focus on stock accuracy and operational excellence.
- Solid experience with inventory systems, stock reporting, cycle counts and loss prevention.
- Highly organised and proactive, with the ability to prioritise and keep the team focused during busy periods or change.
- Genuine passion for retail operations and delivering a seamless experience for customers and colleagues alike.
Desirable but Not Essential
- Knowledge of CEGID POS usage
- Experience in the toy or collectibles industry
- Multi-lingual language ability
