Main Purpose of the Job
Based in our modern offices located above the Trinity Walk Shopping Centre in central Wakefield you will be part of a hardworking and growing team of Transport & Infrastructure Engineers/Consultants. The office is less than a 10 minute walk to Wakefield Westgate (services to Leeds, York, Sheffield) and Wakefield Kirkgate (services to Castleford, Leeds, Barnsley, Huddersfield & Manchester). The office is located directly opposite Wakefield bus station and access to parking is plentiful. There is opportunity to apply for free parking (lottery held every 6 months for all staff)
Whilst predominantly working on projects managed from the Wakefield portfolio there you may be expected to work, remotely, with our other offices across the country as part of a wider, National team to help drive successful delivery of projects and enforce our core business values.
We work on projects across the country with the wider Transport & Infrastructure team and currently have a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from:
- Various Local Authority framework commissions
- Active Travel commissions
- Infrastructure development work including S278, S38 and S104
- A variety of mixed-use residential development projects
- Technical and construction assurance
As part of your role, you may assume responsibility of lead consultant for your discipline contribution to multidisciplinary projects, including liaison with client and establishing/agreeing the brief, delivering the specified work, undertaking contract administration, final account assessment and post contract completion assessment/as-built analysis if required. You may perform complex technical or professional work activities and assure delivery to meet client requirements.
The ability to make plans, schedules and monitors work to meet deadlines and other requirements is also an essential part of the role.
Additionally, you will be expected to provide directions to junior members of the team to support their development and achieve competent delivery. Carry out work within own discipline area collaborating with others as required for assigned projects as delegated by the Project Manager.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement project requirements in line with client specifications and industry standards
- Lead or contribute to the design and delivery of highways & transport infrastructure schemes
- Liaise with wider project team (internal and external), clients & third parties
- Mentor junior staff and support team development
- Produce and check technical reports, drawings, and specifications
- Be willing to supervise site‑based activities where required
What Qualifications, Experience & Skills are required?
- BEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- MEng or MSc in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- Credible experience post-graduation in highway design or civil infrastructure, construction, and supervision
- Working towards professional engineering qualification with IHT or ICE
- Knowledge and experience of implementation of highway design standards, construction practices, and relevant legislation
- Alignments & junction 3D modelling (DMRB, in Civils 3D or similar software)
- Drainage

- Road Restraint Systems
- Road Signs and Markings to TSRGD & Traffic Signs Manual
- Active Travel
- Demonstrate a good understanding of Health and Safety including CDM responsibilities.

- Experience of working in a complex design and project/programme management environment, ideally in infrastructure or a related field and evidence of delivering sustainable results in a large organisation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and deliver outcomes-focused solutions to complex situations
- Ability to design highway engineering solutions, analyse complex information, and use relevant software for modelling and analysis

- Civils 3D & AutoCAD / Technical Drawing skill
- Experience of drainage design and use of analytical modelling tools
