About the Role
· We are looking for an experienced Food Safety & Quality Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day management and continual improvement of our site's food safety and quality systems.
· This is a hands-on, factory-based role where you'll provide technical leadership across food safety, quality assurance, HACCP, BRCGS, audits, risk management, customer complaints and continuous improvement.
· You'll lead and develop our Quality team and work closely with Operations and other departments to ensure high standards are maintained across the site and to continue developing a strong food safety and quality culture.
· You'll also work closely with our Global Technical Director and, where required, provide technical support to our international sites in Poland and Turkey.
What You'll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing and continually improving our Food Safety & Quality Management System
- Maintaining HACCP, TACCP, VACCP, food defence, allergen management and traceability systems
- Leading internal, customer, third-party and regulatory audits
- Managing BRCGS compliance, certification and corrective actions
- Investigating customer complaints, non-conformances and quality incidents
- Leading root cause analysis and corrective and preventative actions (CAPA)
- Managing product release, deviations and concessions
- Overseeing supplier and raw material approval and associated risk assessments
- Monitoring food safety and quality risks and ensuring appropriate controls are in place
- Leading food safety and quality improvement projects with Operations and NPD
- Managing and developing the Quality team, including objectives, KPIs, training and performance
- Promoting a strong and positive food safety and quality culture throughout the site
About You
We're looking for someone with strong practical experience in food manufacturing.
You'll ideally have:
- Significant experience in a food safety, technical or quality management role within food manufacturing
- Experience working with a BRCGS-certified site and maintaining a Food Safety & Quality Management System
- Strong practical knowledge of HACCP, with experience developing, reviewing and maintaining HACCP plans
- Experience leading BRCGS, customer, third-party and regulatory audits
- Experience managing non-conformances, complaints, root cause analysis and CAPA
- Experience with supplier approval, raw material risk assessment and supplier performance
- Experience managing or supervising a technical or quality team
- A good understanding of UK food safety legislation and regulatory requirements
The following would also be advantageous:
- HACCP Level 3/4
- BRCGS Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor qualification
- Food Safety Level 3/4
- Supplier auditing experience
- Experience with food labelling, specifications, food fraud/authenticity or product recalls
- Experience in food ingredients, powders, flavours, colours or a similar manufacturing environment
Most importantly, you'll be hands-on, confident working on the factory floor and comfortable challenging and influencing colleagues at all levels. You'll need to be able to translate technical requirements into practical actions and make sound decisions when dealing with food safety and quality issues.
