The Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated SHEQ & Compliance Manager to take ownership of the company's Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality and Compliance functions.
This is a key role within the business and requires an individual who can confidently manage both the practical and administrative aspects of SHEQ. You will be responsible for maintaining our ISO management systems, supporting operational teams, producing health and safety documentation, undertaking audits and inspections, and ensuring compliance across all areas of the business.
The role is predominantly office-based from our Hyde head office, with regular travel to sites to undertake inspections, audits, risk assessments and compliance reviews.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Produce, review and maintain Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Prepare Construction Phase Plans (CPPs).
- Undertake site inspections, audits and workplace assessments at both Head Office and site across the UK.
- Carry out risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses and manage corrective actions.
- Provide practical health and safety advice to management, employees and subcontractors.
- Assist with compliance under CDM Regulations and other relevant legislation.
- Coordinate inductions, toolbox talks and workforce training requirements.
- Manage training records, certification registers and competence matrices.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance and pre-qualification requirements.
Quality, Environmental & Compliance
- Manage and maintain the company's integrated management system.
- Lead compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Plan and undertake internal audits.
- Coordinate external audit programmes and certification visits.
- Manage corrective actions, non-conformances and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain SHEQ policies, procedures and controlled documentation.
- Produce management review reports and compliance statistics.
- Support environmental and quality objectives across the business.
- Ensure compliance with client, statutory and contractual requirements.
Business Support
- Work closely with operational teams to improve compliance and performance.
- Support tender submissions and PQQ requirements with SHEQ documentation.
- Liaise with external consultants, auditors, clients and regulatory bodies.
- Promote a positive health, safety and quality culture throughout the organisation.
Essential Requirements
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
- Previous experience working within the construction industry.
- Demonstrable experience independently managing ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Experience producing RAMS and Construction Phase Plans.
- Experience conducting audits, inspections and risk assessments.
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and CDM Regulations.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Strong administrative and document management abilities.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Requirements
- Internal Auditor experience
- IOSH membership or equivalent professional accreditation.
- Experience working within construction, building services or specialist contracting environments.
