About the role
Impact Academies Birmingham is looking for a confident and reliable Coding Teacher to deliver engaging, in-person coding and digital-skills lessons to children and young people aged 5–17.
Our purpose goes beyond teaching software. We help children become confident creators who can think independently, solve problems, communicate their ideas and feel proud of meaningful progress.
You will teach small groups through practical projects and guide children without completing the work for them.
Working hours
Teaching takes place:
- Weekdays: 4:30pm–6:30pm
- Weekends: 9:30am–6:30pm
Applicants do not need to be available for every session, but regular evening or weekend availability is required.
Additional hours may be available during school-holiday camps.
This is an in-person role based in Edgbaston, Birmingham. It is not a remote position.
Main responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, age-appropriate coding and digital-skills lessons.
- Support children with different abilities and confidence levels.
- Encourage creativity, independence, communication and problem-solving.
- Prepare lesson resources, equipment, software and student accounts.
- Maintain positive behaviour, inclusion and safeguarding standards.
- Give parents concise and meaningful feedback after lessons.
- Complete attendance and required lesson records within 24 hours.
- Ensure student projects and resources are stored correctly.
- Support project presentations, holiday camps and academy events where required.
Skills and experienceEssential
- Practical knowledge of coding, computing or digital creation.
- Confidence using technology and learning new platforms.
- Ability to explain technical ideas clearly and simply.
- Patience, reliability and good organisation.
- Genuine interest in working with children and young people.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Ability to travel reliably to Edgbaston.
Desirable
Experience in one or more of the following:
- Scratch or ScratchJr
- Python
- Roblox Studio
- Minecraft coding
- Robotics
- Web development
- Game development
- Graphic design
- Animation
- Video editing
Previous teaching, tutoring, coaching or youth-work experience is desirable.
A formal teaching qualification is welcome but not essential.
Training and onboarding
Full training and onboarding are provided, including:
- Impact teaching standards;
- curriculum and lesson resources;
- safeguarding procedures;
- behaviour and classroom management;
- parent communication;
- attendance and administration systems;
- practical observation and feedback.
Safeguarding and DBS
This role involves regular work with children.
Appointment will be subject to references, identity and right-to-work checks, and an appropriate Enhanced DBS check.
Candidates without a current DBS may still apply. The required check can be arranged after a conditional job offer and must be completed before unsupervised teaching begins.
