Complex Care Support Worker – Paediatric Care
Location: S71, Barnsley
Hourly Rate: £14.00 per hour
Shift Pattern: 12-hour shifts
Days Required: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday
Support: 2:1 care
Contract Type: Permanent – Full-time and Part-time opportunities available
About the Role
Josh’s Care Company is looking for compassionate, reliable and motivated Complex Care Support Workers to join a dedicated team supporting a 7-year-old girl with significant complex and palliative care needs.
You will work alongside another member of the care team to provide 2:1 support, helping the child remain safe, comfortable and supported while promoting her wellbeing and quality of life.
The child has a range of complex health needs, including:
- Four-limb dystonic cerebral palsy with dystonic spasms
- Epilepsy and seizures
- Post-haemorrhagic hydrocephalus and VP shunt
- Cognitive and visual impairment
- GORD
- Gastrostomy and PEG-J feeding
- Neuro-enteric failure
- Obstructive sleep apnoea
- Nocturnal high-flow respiratory support
- Complex palliative care needs
She also has a midazolam syringe driver and buccal midazolam, which are managed in accordance with her care plan and clinical guidance.
Key Responsibilities
Depending on training and assessed competencies, your role may include:
- Providing safe and compassionate 2:1 support
- Supporting with personal care, washing, dressing and bathing
- PEG/PEG-J and enteral feeding
- Supporting epilepsy and seizure management
- Medication administration
- Supporting respiratory care
- Suctioning and oxygen therapy where required
- Supporting with mobility, hoisting and specialist equipment
- Using wheelchairs and standing frames
- Supporting prescribed physiotherapy stretches and movements
- Monitoring wellbeing and reporting any concerns
- Supporting the child at home, school and within the community
- Working closely with parents, Registered Nurses and other professionals
- Maintaining accurate daily care records

Previous care experience is desirable, particularly within complex care, paediatric care, epilepsy, PEG feeding or respiratory support, although full package-specific training and competency assessments will be provided.
An enhanced DBS check is required, which we can arrange if necessary.
A driving licence and access to a vehicle is preferred.
Training & Support
You will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support from Josh’s Care Company’s experienced Registered Nurse team.
Training will be tailored to the child’s individual needs and may include:
- PEG/PEG-J feeding
- Epilepsy and seizure management
- Medication administration
- Respiratory care
- Suctioning
- Oxygen therapy
- Postural care
- Moving and handling
- Palliative care support
