St Paul’s Centre is a well-established local charity based in the centre of Crewe. Since 1986 it has provided a range of services focused on meeting local practical need. It is a growing charity inspired by its Christian beliefs and driven by a passion to help and support people in their times of hardship.
The Retail Assistant is an exciting new role supporting the Physical Retail Lead, in maximising the income and ultimate profitability generated by the charity’s physical retail sales to ensure the charity can achieve its desired outcomes and objectives. This may involve work at the charity’s new retail outlet in Crewe town centre, the saleroom at the Church Building and Online sales via eBay.
Main Tasks
Delivering exceptional customer service to achieve improved customer satisfaction. Interacting with customers to identify their needs and preferences.
Advise customers on products and promotions and promote the wider retail activities of the charity, cross-selling where possible.
Operating point-of-sale equipment and ensuring till accuracy.
Keeping the store fully stocked and appealing to customers, rotating stock content and displays when required.
Maintaining the highest level of visual merchandising including displays and general store conditions and cleanliness.
Unpacking deliveries, verifying quantity and quality, ensuring everything is priced and restocking shelves.
Enforcing in-store security and health and safety procedures and regulations.
Preparing listings including pricing, photographs, product information and accurate and honest descriptions. In-depth research may also be required for specialist, high value or bespoke items.
Keeping the online store fully stocked and appealing to customers, rotating stock content monitoring pricing and performance.
Packaging orders for postage, preparing labels and paperwork and ensuring dispatch in time with the guidelines set by eBay.
Developing an in-depth knowledge and understanding of how the charity’s retail activity supports the many community-based projects delivered by the charity and understanding the true worth of each customer to the charity’s objectives.
Person Specification (Essential)
Retail or Online Retail experience, ideally in a high-street setting or a charity environment.
Passionate about retail, customer service and the charity sector.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to handle various tasks and resources simultaneously.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
An effective communicator.
Someone who thrives on challenge and who can identify problems and generate effective and correct solutions.
A problem-solving aptitude with a ‘can-do’ attitude
Someone who is adaptable and thrives in a dynamic and changing environment.
Attention to detail and a clinical approach to detail, accuracy and factuality.
Team player - Must be flexible and able to balance own workload whilst contributing to a wider team with varying levels of priority and display a positive can-do attitude.
A minimum of GCSE English & Maths at grade 4 / C.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite - Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
