JOB DESCRIPTION
POST: Youth Worker
HOURS OF WORK: As agreed
RESPONSIBLE TO: Lead Youth Worker
CENTRE OF DUTY: The post holder will be based at Gillingham Youth Club
ROLE PURPOSE:
The role of the youth worker is, with enthusiasm and energy, to work with young people to nurture their ideas, talents and experiences within Gillingham Youth Club.
The purpose of this role is to plan, deliver and evaluate youth work provision in Gillingham Youth Club, ensuring young people have access to a service which is inclusive and representative of all.
This involves:
- Curriculum development
- Planning and delivering sessions
- Evaluate youth work delivery with young people to continually improve practice
- Setting up the youth club ready for club opening and packing away at the end of each session
- Following club policy and procedures at all times
- Providing information, advice and guidance to young people on issues which effect them – signposting to alternative appropriate agencies or organisations as appropriate
- Reacting to the young people’s needs as highlighted during sessions
- Contributing to the personal, social, cultural and educational development of the young people
- Engaging young people in the club – with programme planning, activities, fundraising and volunteering
- Empowering young people to make positive decisions in all aspects of their lives
- Facilitate positive change within the young people attending the club – in their personal development but also as a group within their community

- Level 2 Youth Work Practice Certificate (or willingness to undertake training to gain the qualification)

- Experience of working with young people

- Excellent communication skills
