About the Role
BM Foods is looking for an experienced and driven RTE Shift Manager to lead our Ready-to-Eat (RTE) operation at our Avonmouth site. Reporting directly to the Factory Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the RTE department, ensuring the highest standards of food safety, quality, productivity, and team performance are consistently achieved. Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Take full responsibility for maintaining health and safety standards within the RTE department during your shift.
- Lead by example and ensure compliance with company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Manage accident investigations, risk assessments and corrective actions.
- Ensure employees and contractors follow all site safety requirements.
Quality & Food Safety
- Drive excellence in product quality and compliance with quality management systems.
- Ensure finished products meet customer and company expectations.
- Maintain the highest standards of hygiene, housekeeping and microbiological control within the department.
- Support compliance with food safety and customer standards.
Operational Performance
- Deliver daily and weekly production plans while meeting customer service targets.
- Work closely with the Factory Manager, Goods In team and Transport Manager to ensure smooth production and dispatch operations.
- Communicate any production risks or shortages promptly to key stakeholders.
- Identify and implement solutions to improve operational efficiency and performance.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach and motivate Supervisors, MSOs and Operatives to achieve department objectives.
- Manage attendance, performance, disciplinary and grievance processes.
- Support training, development and succession planning within the team.
- Foster a positive, engaged and accountable working culture.
- Champion employee engagement initiatives, including Redzone, employee forums and recognition programmes.
About You
We're looking for someone who can confidently lead a team and deliver results in a high-care food manufacturing environment.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Manufacturing Manager, Shift Manager or similar leadership role within FMCG manufacturing.
- Previous experience in a high-risk/high-care food production environment.
- Strong people management and leadership skills.
- Good understanding of manufacturing best practice.
- Knowledge of food safety, compliance and Health & Safety legislation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Numerate with a clear understanding of operational cost drivers.
Desirable
- BRC and retailer audit experience.
- Experience working within a continuous improvement culture.
