Are you as passionate about Basque cheesecake as we are? We started La Maritxu just two years ago, baking these delectable treats right from our home kitchen. The overwhelming love and support from our community led us to open our shop in November 2023.
In just a few months since our shop's inauguration, we've witnessed an incredible surge in demand and interest. As a testament to the exceptional quality and flavour of our Basque cheesecakes, our customers have become an integral part of our journey.
At La Maritxu, we take pride in upholding the values that have been with us from the beginning. Chief among them is our unwavering commitment to taking care of our customers. As we navigate this exciting period of growth, we are looking for a dedicated individual who shares our passion for customer satisfaction.
If you are ready to be a part of a sweet success story, to contribute to the legacy of La Maritxu, and to help us meet the increasing demands of our beloved customers, we invite you to apply and join the La Maritxu family.
Job Summary:
The role
You'll work in our production kitchen making cheesecakes and other bakes to spec, reporting to the Head Baker. This is a hands-on production role. You'll learn our recipes and processes, execute them consistently, and take on more responsibility as you go.
We're open on level: if you've got a year in a professional kitchen and want to learn, apply. If you've got three or four years and want more ownership, apply too. We'll pitch the role to match.
What you'll do
- Weigh, mix, bake and finish products to our recipes and standards
- Run daily prep and mise en place; check bakes for consistency and flag anything off-spec
- Keep the kitchen clean and organised, following our HACCP procedures and completing due-diligence records
- Handle stock rotation, log ingredient use and report shortages before they become problems
- Support with packing, labelling and getting wholesale and shop orders out on time
- Once you know our range, help train new starters on the tasks you've mastered
What we're looking for
- 1+ year in a professional bakery, pastry section or production kitchen (bakery/pastry preferred, but we'll consider strong kitchen experience)
- Comfortable working to a recipe with accuracy — grams matter here
- Reliable and early-rising: our bakes start before the shops open
- Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate, or willing to complete one in your first month (we'll pay)
- Right to work in the UK
- Able to commute reliably to London E2
Nice to have, not required
- Experience with cheesecakes, custards or other egg-set bakes
