General Builder – Bricklaying / Plastering / Multi-Trade

South West Heritage & Development Ltd is looking for an experienced and reliable General Builder / Multi-Skilled Tradesperson to join our growing team on a permanent, PAYE basis.
We are a Principal Contractor delivering a varied range of construction projects throughout Devon and the wider South West, with a particular focus on heritage and listed buildings, renovations, refurbishments, roofing and new-build projects.
We are looking for an experienced tradesperson with strong skills in general building, bricklaying and plastering, who takes pride in producing a high standard of work.
The Role
This is a varied, hands-on position working across a range of SWHD projects. No two projects are exactly the same, so we are looking for someone who is adaptable, experienced and comfortable undertaking different aspects of general building work.
Typical duties will include:
- Brick and block laying
- Stonework and masonry repairs
- Internal and external plastering
- Rendering
- Traditional pointing and repointing
- Lime mortar and lime-based works where required
- General building and structural alteration works
- Forming and making good openings
- Groundworks and basic concrete works
- Assisting with roofing and structural works
- Basic carpentry and associated building works
- Making good following other trades
- Reading and working from drawings and specifications
- Working alongside other SWHD trades and subcontractors
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment
- Ensuring works are completed to a high standard and in accordance with project requirements
What We're Looking For
Applicants should ideally have:
- Proven experience as a General Builder, Bricklayer, Plasterer or Multi-Skilled Tradesperson
- Strong bricklaying/blockwork and plastering skills
- Good general construction knowledge
- Experience using hand and power tools safely
- The ability to work independently and as part of a wider site team
- A good understanding of construction Health & Safety
- Pride in the quality and finish of their work
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work practically on site
- Reliability, punctuality and a professional attitude
- A full UK driving licence
Experience working with traditional buildings, stonework, lime mortar, lime plaster or listed/heritage propertieswould be particularly advantageous.
A valid CSCS card would also be advantageous.
