About the Role
My Homecare Gloucester is looking for an experienced, motivated and hands-on Registered Manager to lead our established domiciliary care service. This role is open to both full-time and part-time candidates as registration is held jointly with the Operations Director.
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for the safe, effective and compliant delivery of care, alongside the continued development and growth of the service. We are particularly looking for someone who is confident taking an active lead in recruitment, staff development and training, recognising that attracting, developing and retaining high-quality care staff is fundamental to delivering an outstanding service.
Working closely with the Directors and our experinced care management team, you will provide visible leadership across the service, ensuring high standards of care, strong workforce performance and continued compliance with CQC requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Service Management
- Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management and quality of the domiciliary care service.
- Act as the CQC Registered Manager, ensuring the service meets all regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Provide strong, visible and supportive leadership to the office team and care workforce.
- Promote a positive culture focused on person-centred care, accountability, continuous improvement and staff development.
- Maintain effective systems for governance, audits, incidents, complaints, safeguarding and quality assurance.
- Monitor service performance and implement improvements where required.
- Work closely with clients, families, commissioners and health and social care professionals.
- Support the continued growth and development of the service while ensuring growth remains safe and sustainable.
Recruitment & Workforce Development
A significant part of this role will be taking a proactive lead in ensuring the service has the right people, with the right skills, in the right roles.
You will:
- Lead and oversee the recruitment strategy for the service, working closely with the recruitment team to maintain a strong and sustainable workforce.
- Take an active role in recruitment campaigns, candidate attraction, interviewing and selection.
- Monitor recruitment requirements against current and projected care capacity.
- Ensure recruitment processes are values-based, effective and compliant with safer recruitment requirements.
- Support improvements to candidate experience, recruitment timescales and staff retention.
- Oversee effective induction, probation and onboarding arrangements for new employees.
- Work with the management team to identify workforce gaps and develop appropriate recruitment and retention strategies.
- Promote career progression and development opportunities within the organisation.
Training, Competency & Staff Development
The Registered Manager will play an active role in the delivery and oversight of staff training, rather than simply monitoring training compliance.
Responsibilities will include:
- Delivering elements of induction, mandatory training and ongoing development programmes.
- Supporting the delivery of practical and classroom-based training appropriate to your skills and competencies.
- Ensuring staff receive training appropriate to the needs of the people they support.
- Overseeing competency assessments, observations and ongoing assessment of staff practice.
- Identifying learning needs through audits, incidents, complaints, observations and supervision.
- Developing training and improvement plans where gaps in knowledge or practice are identified.
- Supporting supervisors and senior care staff to become confident mentors and assessors.
- Ensuring training records and competency documentation remain accurate and up to date.
- Creating a culture where learning and professional development are embedded within everyday practice.
Quality & Compliance
You will ensure that:
- Care plans and risk assessments are person-centred, accurate and regularly reviewed.
- Safeguarding concerns are recognised, reported and managed appropriately.
- Medication management and other clinical or care-related processes are effectively audited.
- Staff supervision, competency assessments and performance reviews are completed to a high standard.
- Complaints, incidents and concerns are investigated thoroughly and used as opportunities for learning.
- CQC requirements and the Fundamental Standards are embedded throughout the service.
- The service remains inspection-ready through effective governance rather than relying on preparation immediately before inspection.
About You
We are looking for someone who combines strong regulatory knowledge with the ability to lead from the front.
You will ideally have:
- Previous management experience within domiciliary care or a closely related adult social care service.
- Strong knowledge of CQC regulations and the Fundamental Standards.
- Experience managing and developing care teams.
- Demonstrable experience of recruiting, onboarding and retaining care staff.
- Confidence in delivering training, coaching staff and assessing competency.
- A relevant Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management for Adult Care, or willingness to work towards this where appropriate.
- Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills.
- Strong safeguarding and risk-management knowledge.
- The confidence to manage difficult conversations and address poor performance appropriately.
- Good IT skills and experience using electronic care management systems.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Experience delivering practical care training, holding recognised trainer qualifications, or experience in areas such as medication, moving and handling, induction or competency assessment would be particularly advantageous.
What We Offer
This is an opportunity to join an established service with an experienced management team and the infrastructure to support further development and growth.
We offer:
- Competitive salary dependent on experience.
- Support from an established senior management and office team.
- Opportunities for further professional development and qualifications.
- The opportunity to shape recruitment, training and workforce development within the service.
- A varied role combining operational leadership, quality improvement and staff development.
- Genuine opportunity to influence the future development and growth of the organisation.
The Person We Are Looking For
We are not looking for a Registered Manager who wants to manage solely from behind a desk.
We are looking for someone who enjoys developing people, building teams and improving standards. You should be equally comfortable reviewing an audit or care plan, interviewing a prospective care worker, delivering a training session, coaching a member of staff and working with the leadership team on the future direction of the service.
If you are passionate about developing excellent care teams and believe that outstanding care starts with recruiting the right people, training them well and giving them strong leadership, we would love to hear from you.
Apply with your CV and a brief covering statement outlining your experience in domiciliary care management, recruitment and staff training.
