Joseph Ash Galvanizing is looking to recruit a Yard Operative & Relief Driver to join the team in Bilston.
Working Hours
39 per week. Actual hours will depend upon duties being completed.
Yard - 4am – 12am or 6am – 2pm
Driving - 6am – 4pm (variable dependent upon route)
Rate of Pay
Driving Class 1 – £18.21 per hour
Driving Class 2 & Yard – £15.24 per hour

The role will primarily support the Yard Supervisor to handle steel products and co-ordinate the placement within the yard. In addition it will provide holiday and sickness cover for Class C&E drivers. Ensure galvanizing quality standards through quality inspections.
Key Responsibilities
Working with the yard supervisor, direct and coordinate the placement of goods in designated storage or processing areas.
Ensure materials are stored in compliance with safety and operational standards.
Accurately weigh incoming goods and materials upon arrival at the yard.
Verify that all weights meet expected values and report any discrepancies.
General handling of steel products
Working closely with production, sales and transport to ensure efficient loading and handling to ensure that yard activity is aligned to factory and customer requirements.
Ensuring that the yard is clean in accordance with company standards.
Completing pre- use operational vehicle defect checks (Using the FleetCheck Mobile App Systems)
Completing Load Safety Checks (Using the FleetCheck App Systems)
Assisting with loading and unloading operations
Being responsible for the safety of their load and ensuring its security with the use of Ratchet Straps on flatbed trailers and vehicles.
Compliance with all current company & legal procedures & requirements.
Conduct final quality checks on finished products in accordance with BS EN ISO 1461, ensuring they meet the required galvanizing quality standards.
What We Are Looking For
Hold a current driving licence with the correct entitlement C+E
A minimum of 12 months HGV driving experience
No more than 6 unspent penalty points.
They must hold a current driver Tachograph Card with less than 6 months of expiry
Driver CPC Card with an expiry of less than 12 months.
Ideally have experience in transporting steel products.
Forklift truck licence.
Experience working on a weighbridge and with stock control.
Good communication skills.
Previous experience of working in a manufacturing or steel environment would be desirable but is not essential.
