Make a difference where your skills will be recognised
Do you want to work in a team where disabled children are known, understood and supported to thrive within their families and communities?
Our June 2026 Ofsted inspection found that services for children and families have improved significantly, supported by a
‘child-focused, stable, skilled and consistent workforce’ committed to restorative and relational practice.
We are looking for a dedicated Social Worker to join our Children with Disabilities Team in South Tyneside. This is an opportunity to become part of a skilled, supportive service that is ambitious for children and families and committed to continuing its improvement journey.
Ofsted also recognised the particular strength of practice with disabled children:
“The needs of disabled children are well understood by skilled and knowledgeable social workers.”
A team that will support you
We understand that social work can be complex and challenging. You will work within a small team, with strong guidance, oversight and access to a visible and approachable management team.
You will be joining a service where restorative and relational practice provides a secure foundation for working with children and families, which has been acknowledged recently as having a clear impact on the meaningful relationships practitioners build with children, care-experienced young people and families.
Develop your career with us
You will have access to regular and relevant training, online research together with practice resources, and opportunities to strengthen your skills and progress your career.
If you are not yet a progressed Social Worker, we will support you through our career progression framework and progression portfolio. Post-qualifying development opportunities include practice education, together with opportunities for staff to develop their practice and progress into specialist and leadership roles.
What you will bring
We are looking for a Social Worker who:
- puts children and families at the centre of their practice
- builds purposeful and respectful relationships
- listens carefully to children and helps their voices influence decisions
- works openly and collaboratively with families and professional networks
- is thoughtful, curious and analytical in assessment and planning
- understands the importance of children’s identity, culture and lived experience
- contributes positively to team learning and continuous improvement
- wants to develop their practice within a supportive and ambitious service
