A great opportunity has arisen to join the Missing Young Persons Team within Calderdale Council. The Missing Young Persons Team are based within Calderdale's Family Intervention Team and are responsible for providing high quality Independent Missing Return Conversations to young people in Calderdale and delivering targeted interventions.
Working directly with young people and families, you will complete Independent Missing Return Conversations, undertake assessments, develop safety plans, and work alongside partners including schools, police and safeguarding services to reduce risk and prevent escalation to statutory services.
You will provide timely, targeted interventions to young people identified as requiring additional support, working alongside families and partner agencies to address risks and barriers affecting their wellbeing. Through direct work, assessment and tailored support plans, you will help young people build resilience, make positive choices and achieve better outcomes, reducing the need for statutory intervention wherever possible.
You will deliver interventions to support and improve family relationships, using non-violent communication techniques and coping strategies. You will also support young people through timely, short-term, focused interventions, typically lasting 6–12 weeks.
We are looking for someone who can creatively engage with and support young people, you will need to be an approachable figure for young people and will provide a service where they get a chance to have their voices heard about their missing episodes.
You will build an understanding and awareness of the professional and social networks surrounding young people to build a picture as to the reasons why a young person goes missing.
If you have a Level 2 or above qualification in Youth and Community work or equivalent in a relevant subject such as teaching or adolescent mental health and have experience of working holistically, we will welcome your application.
The successful candidate will also have good organisational skills, be able to communicate and respond to the needs of young people and individual families from diverse backgrounds; and exercise a high degree of independence, initiative and expertise in this field.
