Experienced Butcher
We are a busy, modern butchers shop with a reputation for top quality meat and award-winning produce. As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a skilled, passionate experienced butcher to join our team. This role is perfect for a traditional craft butcher who takes pride in counter presentation, whole carcass butchery, and delivering exceptional customer service. You will be a key player on our shop floor, helping us maintain the high standards that keep our customers coming back week after week.
Key Responsibilities
- Whole Carcass Butchery: Confidently break down carcases (beef, pork, lamb, and poultry) with precision, maximizing yield and minimizing waste.
- Value-Added Products: Prepare our popular range of sausages, burgers, ready-to-cook meals, and traditional butcher cuts for the retail counter.
- Counter Excellence: Maintain an attractive, fully stocked, and meticulously clean display counter throughout the day.
- Customer Service: Greet customers, offer expert advice on cooking techniques or meat selection, and provide a friendly, welcoming experience.
- Hygiene & Safety: Adhere strictly to food safety regulations, temperature logging, and daily deep-cleaning schedules.
The Ideal Candidate
- A Skilled Hand: You have deep knowledge of traditional butchery techniques and knife skills. You will be breaking down whole carcasses of prime british beef, lamb, pork & poultry.
- People Person: You genuinely enjoy chatting with customers, building rapport, and being a familiar face in the community.
- Team Player: You thrive working in a close knit team and are happy to pitch in wherever needed to keep the shop running smoothly.
- Eye for Detail: You care about the presentation of your work, from the neatness of a tied string to the layout of the display case.
Requirements
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience working as a butcher in a retail or catering environment.
- Proficient in all aspects of carcass breakdown, boning, rolling, and portion control.
- Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene Certification (Preferred).
- Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.
- Strong physical stamina for handling heavy carcasses.
