About the Role
Braehead Ice Centre, located within Braehead Arena, is Scotland’s Premier Ice Rink and home to the Glasgow Clan. Welcoming thousands of visitors each year, we are proud to provide a wide range of skating experiences for all ages and abilities, from public skating sessions, learn to skate programmes, figure skating, ice hockey, group bookings and themed events.
We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable and customer focused individuals to join our team as Seasonal Ice Stewards.
Ice Stewards play a key role in ensuring every customer has a safe, enjoyable and memorable experience. Working as part of the Ice Steward team, you will help supervise skating sessions, support customers and maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
Applicants must be competent skaters and confident in skating within busy session environments. Previous ice skating experience and your own ice skates is essential for this role.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people and is happy to work flexible hours. Evening and weekend availability is essential, with additional daytime shifts available on weekdays.
Additional hours may be available to the correct applicant during Braehead Arena Events.
Key Responsibilities
On-Ice Duties
- Patrol the ice during Public Skating sessions, lessons, and events.
- Maintain safety by monitoring skaters and enforcing rink rules fairly and consistently.
- Assist skaters who have fallen or appear unsteady.
- Support and reassure beginners and nervous skaters.
- Help manage busy sessions with effective crowd control.
- Respond quickly and appropriately to incidents, accidents, and emergencies.
- Carry out visual checks for hazards (e.g. damaged ice, barriers, or debris).
- Communication using our radio system.
Off-Ice Duties
- Welcome and assist customers on arrival, providing friendly and professional assistance.
- Provide information about rink rules, session times ,lessons and other events.
- Support Skate Hire operations (issuing, checking, and returning skates).
- Ensure the Skate Hire area is safe, tidy, and free of hazards.
- Carry out daily tasks including opening and closing checks.
- Monitor queues and assist with crowd flow around entrances/exits.
- Communication using our radio system.
What We're Looking For
- Competent ice skater with good confidence, control and awareness on the ice.
- Good awareness and observation - spotting potential risks early.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and handle incidents effectively.
- Awareness of health & safety and safeguarding principles.
- Reliable, proactive, and approachable attitude.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable:
- First Aid Certification
- Previous experience in customer service.
- Experience working with children, families, or the public.
