Revenues Officer – Council Tax Processing (Temporary)

Contract: Temporary, 91 Days

Pay Rate: PAYE £22.86 per hour | Ltd/Umbrella £29.84 per hour

Council is seeking experienced Revenues Processing Officers to support the delivery of an efficient and accurate Council Tax service. This is a high-volume processing role, ideal for professionals with recent local authority revenues experience who can quickly become operational and manage caseloads with minimal supervision.
About the Role
As a Revenues Officer, you will be responsible for processing Council Tax accounts, determining liability, assessing discounts and exemptions, and maintaining accurate records in line with legislation and council policies. You will handle correspondence, resolve queries, and support recovery activities to ensure service standards and collection targets are met.
What You'll Be Doing
- Processing changes of occupancy, ownership, and liability
- Creating, amending, and closing Council Tax accounts
- Assessing and processing discounts, exemptions, disregards, and reductions
- Issuing revised bills, notices, and statutory correspondence
- Investigating and resolving account queries within agreed service standards
- Supporting recovery and collection activities, including preparing accounts for recovery action
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with legislation and council procedures
- Achieving productivity and accuracy targets while managing a busy caseload
What We're Looking For
We're seeking candidates with:
- Recent experience working within a Local Authority Council Tax service
- Proven experience processing Council Tax accounts
- Good working knowledge of Council Tax legislation
- Experience assessing discounts, exemptions, and liability matters
- Proficiency in NEC Revenues (Northgate) or similar revenues systems
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage high-volume workloads and meet deadlines
- Competent use of Microsoft Office applications
Desirable:
- Experience with complex liability investigations
- Knowledge of Council Tax recovery procedures
- Experience using Academy, Civica, or other revenues systems
- Previous local authority/council experience
