As we move towards a Net Zero future, the way we generate, store and use electricity is rapidly evolving. From renewable energy and electric vehicles to energy storage and community energy schemes, innovative solutions are transforming the role of electricity networks.
At SSEN Distribution, our Modelling and Reporting team plays a crucial role in this transition. Using specialist technical expertise, we maintain network models, deliver system studies, identify current and future network constraints, and provide high-quality data and insights that support customers and stakeholders.
The team helps ensure the network remains safe, reliable and compliant with statutory, regulatory and licence obligations, enabling the most economic, efficient and coordinated operation of the electricity system.
You will
- Accurately model the SSE Distribution Network and its interfaces with Transmission Operators, maintaining high-quality data for network analysis, forecasting and reporting. Develop robust processes, documentation and reports to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
- Ensure network compliance with Grid Code and licence obligations by carrying out power system studies, including load flow, fault level, voltage, thermal, transient stability, switching, harmonic and power quality analysis.
- Produce licensed reporting and network forecasts, including Long Term Development Statement (LTDS), Load Index (LI), Week 24, EDCM/CDCM, ED2 outputs, Network Development Plans and constraint/opportunity assessments, sharing insights with stakeholders and customers.
- Support industry data exchange reforms through CIM integration, enhance technical reporting and stakeholder experience, and contribute to industry code and policy development relating to forecasting and reporting methodologies.
You have
- Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering with relevant experience, or relevant STEM degree. Incorporated / Chartered status or developing towards desirable.
- An understanding of statutory, regulatory & license requirements, industry wide codes, network and engineering standards.
- Fundamental knowledge of the design, operation, protection and safety of electricity networks, and the interface with Transmission.
- Experience of Power System Analysis software e.g. PowerFactory, PSSE and the willingness to learn new systems with the ability to use Python (an understanding of CIM would be advantageous)
