Liverpool Hope University is seeking two reliable and responsible individuals to join Campus Services as a Live-in Campus Warden at Aigburth Park Campus.

This unique opportunity offers rent-free accommodation and may suit someone who is already in daytime employment, provided they can meet the overnight residential duty requirements of the role. Particularly suitable for a someone seeking high-quality, rent-free accommodation in return for providing an overnight residential presence on Campus.
The purpose of the role is to provide an essential residential presence on campus and act as a second trained and competent person to support the Campus Services Officer during serious or major incidents. These may include fires, serious medical emergencies, critical security incidents, safeguarding concerns or the loss of essential services.
The successful candidate will live in a self-contained apartment at Aigburth Park Campus without paying rent and will also receive a Residential Availability Allowance of £600 per month.
How the role works
The Warden will participate in a published overnight residential duty rota. While on duty, you must:
- Remain within the boundaries of Aigburth Park Campus.
- Be immediately contactable by the University.
- Remain fit and able to respond if required.
- Be available to support the Campus Services Officer during a serious or major incident.
You will be permitted to sleep in your accommodation during rostered overnight duty. You will only be expected to undertake active duties if a serious or major incident occurs. These incidents are expected to be rare and infrequent, and the role does not involve any routine security or operational duties throughout the night.
If called upon, you may be required to:
- Wardens would be expected to respond immediately when called upon during their rostered duty period.
- Assist with fire alarm activations and building evacuations.
- Undertake student roll calls following an evacuation.
- Contact and direct the emergency services.
- Support the management of serious security, safeguarding, medical or other emergency situations.
About you
We are looking for someone who is reliable, trustworthy and able to remain calm under pressure. You will need to exercise sound judgement, communicate confidently and conduct yourself professionally as a visible member of the University’s residential community.
You must also:
- Be willing and able to live in the designated campus accommodation for the duration of the appointment.
- Be available for rostered overnight and weekend residential duties.
- Hold a full, valid driving licence.
- Undertake and maintain the required First Aid, Fire Marshal and incident-management training.
- Due to the potential for Children staying on site for summer schools etc, you must satisfy the University’s pre-employment checks, including an Enhanced DBS check.
Experience in emergency response, security, customer service or a residential or pastoral environment would be beneficial but is not essential.
Important information
The accommodation is provided specifically to enable the successful candidate to carry out the Warden role. It is governed by a Warden Service Occupancy Agreement and is directly linked to continued employment in this post. If the employment ends, the right to occupy the accommodation will also end.

Please note the above is indicative not final. The residential duty rota will be agreed in advance and remain subject to periodic review in line with operational requirements.
Application would receive 5.6 weeks' paid annual leave during each holiday year (September to August). For the purposes of this appointment, annual leave means that the Employee is relieved of all Residential Duty / sleep in obligations. Annual leave would normally not be approved during the core undergraduate teaching periods, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
