Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Building Services Engineer to take ownership of the day-to-day engineering operation of our site. The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance, and compliance of building systems and services, while acting as the main point of contact for the client on-site. This role combines hands-on technical delivery with real ownership: you will manage your own workload, coordinate and oversee contractors, run the planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programme (both self-delivered and subcontracted), keep compliance records up to date, and build strong day-to-day relationships with the client, landlord, and building occupants. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced building engineer who enjoys autonomy and wants to be the trusted face of engineering on-site.
**Multi contract role - Monday - Thursday 08:00-17:00 plus one Saturday or Sunday shift each week. Requirement to be on standby (on call) each week**
Responsibilities
- Manage your own workload and schedule, prioritising reactive, planned, and emergency work to keep building systems running efficiently.
- Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire, life safety, and control systems, in line with applicable codes, regulations, and company standards.
- Assign, coordinate, and oversee contractors on-site, inspecting completed works to ensure they meet quality, safety, and compliance standards.
- Manage the planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programme, covering both self-delivered tasks and subcontracted works, ensuring all activity is scheduled, completed, and recorded on time.
- Upload and maintain compliance documentation and statutory records accurately and in a timely manner, keeping regulatory paperwork audit-ready at all times.
- Liaise with the landlord to arrange building access for engineers, contractors, and works as required.
- Engage with the client daily, providing clear updates on the status of jobs, works in progress, and any issues affecting the building.
- Act as the first point of contact for client and customer needs on-site, responding promptly and professionally to requests, queries, and concerns.
- Assign work orders and estimate time and materials needed for repairs; maintain adequate inventory of tools and supplies.
- Support the energy management programme, ensuring all systems operate as efficiently as possible.
- Diagnose and resolve building system issues using sound root cause analysis, drawing on wider trade knowledge and experience to develop practical solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activity, repairs, and incidents in line with company procedures
Qualifications
- Proven experience lighting control systems
- Trade-relevant certification in one or more of the following: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, refrigeration systems, process controls, plumbing, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience with building management system (BMS)
- Familiar with SFG20 standards.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis effectively to resolve complex technical issues.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, schematics interpretation, and system integration processes.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Pay: £40,000.00-£46,000.00 per year
