Labourer/Van Driver
IDH is seeking a reliable and hardworking Labourer / Van Driver to support our high-end home improvement projects across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
This role combines on-site labouring duties with the safe and efficient delivery and collection of materials and equipment between sites, merchants and Head Office. The successful candidate will be organised, proactive and dependable, with the ability to follow processes and instructions accurately, use initiative, and maintain the high standards of quality, professionalism and site presentation expected at IDH.
As this is a mobile role, this position requires someone who is dependable, self‑motivated and able to work independently, managing their time and responsibilities effectively to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to the required standard.
Full, clean UK driving licence essential.
Main Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for a combination of on-site labouring and driving duties, including but not limited to:
- Carrying out general construction labouring duties, including moving materials, digging and assisting with the overall build process.
- Maintaining clean, tidy and well-organised sites at all times.
- Safely delivering and collecting materials and equipment between sites, Head Office and merchants, in line with management instructions and priorities.
- Loading and unloading the company vehicle safely, ensuring loads are organised to suit the planned delivery route.
- Collecting all materials/equipment required for the first day of new projects and delivering them to site on time.
- Completing basic paperwork correctly, ensuring all required information is accurate and submitted to the relevant person in line with company processes and procedures, within required timescales.
- Carrying out weekly grounds maintenance at Newhailes Business Park and take monthly meter readings, submitting the information to Head Office for processing.
- Ensuring the company van is kept clean, tidy, roadworthy and well maintained at all times.
- Demonstrating initiative by understanding tasks fully, following instructions carefully, and completing work efficiently with minimal supervision.
Please note: this is a mobile role with no fixed office base.

Essential Requirements
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- As a mobile role, this position requires someone who is dependable, self‑motivated and able to work independently, managing their time and responsibilities effectively to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to the required standard.
- Previous experience in a similar labouring or driving role.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Good communication skills and a positive, professional attitude.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.
- Well organised with the ability to manage time effectively.
- Physically fit and able to meet the demands of the role (including lifting heavy loads and standing for long periods).
- Good working knowledge of Edinburgh and the Lothians.
- Reliable, polite and trustworthy.
- Strong awareness of productivity, with an understanding of the need to minimise travel and other non-productive time.
- Excellent time management skills to ensure deliveries and collections are completed as scheduled.
- Strong ability to follow company processes and procedures, and to accurately understand and carry out both written and verbal instructions. Confident to ask questions and seek clarification where required, ensuring all tasks are completed effectively, efficiently and to the required standard.
Desirable
- Basic construction experience.
Hours of Work
- Monday to Thursday: 8:00am – 4:30pm
- Friday: 8:00am – 3:30pm
