TimesGroup Ltd is a growing Mechanical & Electrical contractor delivering projects across the UK.
Our Projects Division delivers mechanical and electrical packages across a wide range of sectors, and as part of our continued growth we are looking to appoint an experienced Fire Sprinkler Design Engineer to join our design team.
This is a UK-wide role, supporting the design and delivery of sprinkler systems across projects throughout the country.
We are looking for an experienced designer with a strong technical background, excellent Autodesk Revit skills and proven experience designing sprinkler systems across both commercial and residential projects.
The Role
As Fire Sprinkler Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing detailed, coordinated sprinkler system designs from initial concept through to construction and installation.
Working as part of our Projects Division, you will support multiple projects across the UK, working closely with our Project Managers, Mechanical and Electrical teams, clients, consultants and site installation teams.
The role will involve designing sprinkler systems for a varied portfolio of projects, including commercial developments, residential schemes, student accommodation, refurbishments and other building projects.
You will play an important role in developing and expanding TimesGroup's in-house sprinkler design capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed fire sprinkler system designs using Autodesk Revit.
- Develop coordinated sprinkler layouts and BIM models.
- Design sprinkler systems for commercial and residential projects.
- Produce detailed construction drawings, layouts, schematics and design information.
- Undertake hydraulic calculations and pipe sizing.
- Interpret architectural, structural and M&E drawings.
- Coordinate sprinkler systems with other building services and construction elements.
- Attend design and coordination meetings where required.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, Project Managers and site teams.
- Review designs and make amendments in response to coordination requirements and design changes.
- Provide technical support to installation teams throughout projects.
- Attend UK project sites when required for surveys, inspections and design reviews.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant British Standards, industry standards and project specifications.
- Assist with design development, value engineering and technical problem solving.
- Manage design deliverables and ensure information is issued within agreed project deadlines.
- Work across multiple projects simultaneously, prioritising workloads according to project requirements.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Fire Sprinkler Design Engineer / Sprinkler Designer.
- Demonstrable experience designing sprinkler systems for both commercial and residential projects.
- Strong practical experience using Autodesk Revit.
- Experience producing detailed sprinkler layouts and coordinated BIM models.
- Strong knowledge of sprinkler system design and hydraulic calculations.
- Good understanding of relevant British Standards and sprinkler industry requirements.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural and M&E drawings.
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet design deadlines.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Willingness to travel to project sites across the UK when required.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Desirable Experience
- BS EN 12845.
- BS 9251.
- LPCB requirements.
- FM Global requirements.
- AutoCAD.
- Sprinkler hydraulic calculation software such as HydraCALC, HASS or equivalent.
- BIM coordination experience.
- Experience working for an M&E contractor.
- Relevant sprinkler industry qualifications.
