We are now expanding our provision to include qualifications in the children, young people, and families sector, and seek experienced professionals to support this growth.
The Role We are recruiting a qualified and experienced Tutor/Assessor to join our team and support learners on the following programmes:
- Children and Young People (Level 2)
- Residential Care (Level 3)
- Children, Young People and Families Practitioner (Level 4)
- Children, Young People and Families Manager (Level 5)
You will deliver effective teaching, learning, and assessment to adult learners (apprentices and qualification candidates) in workplace settings such as residential childcare homes, youth services, family support teams, and related environments. The role involves managing a caseload of approximately 35 learners, ensuring they meet apprenticeship standards through high-quality guidance and rigorous assessment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver structured teaching sessions (blended: online, virtual, and in-person where required)
- Conduct workplace observations, professional discussions, and assessments against the relevant apprenticeship standards
- Carry out regular progress reviews, skills scans, and formative/summative assessments
- Provide detailed, constructive feedback and support to enable learner achievement
- Maintain accurate records of evidence, off-the-job training, and compliance using e-portfolio systems
- Build effective relationships with learners, employers, and workplace supervisors/mentors
- Ensure full adherence to ESFA funding rules, Ofsted requirements, and safeguarding standards
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of our children and young people programmes
Essential Requirements
- Relevant vocational qualification in children/young people, residential childcare, or related field (minimum Level 3)
- Recognised assessor qualification (CAVA or equivalent, e.g. TAQA, A1)
- Teaching/training qualification (e.g. AET/PTLLS, Cert Ed, or willingness to achieve)
- Current enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain)
- Proven experience assessing or tutoring in children, young people, or residential childcare qualifications/apprenticeships
- Strong preference for direct experience in residential childcare settings
- Experience using e-portfolio systems (e.g. OneFile, Smart Assessor, or similar)
- Excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for travel to learner workplaces
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Experience in residential childcare or closely related sectors (e.g. youth justice, fostering, family intervention)
- Knowledge of current apprenticeship standards in the children, young people, and families pathway
- Familiarity with ESFA compliance and apprenticeship funding rules
