About Us
We are an established engineering and fabrication workshop based in Colwick, delivering high-quality, bespoke metalwork and HVAC ventilation solutions. Following the planned transition of our Director after 13 years overseeing the shop floor, we are seeking a hands-on, highly skilled Workshop Supervisor to lead our daily fabrication operations.
The Role
This is a pivotal role combining shop-floor leadership with high-level technical expertise. You will manage daily production, mentor the team, and act as a primary point of contact for clients entering the workshop, assisting with customer orders and handling ad-hoc payments as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Shop-Floor Leadership: Delegate daily workloads to team members, guide staff on proper techniques, assist on complex builds, and keep production running smoothly.
- Technical Fabrication: Work with press brakes, guillotines, and plasma tables, interpreting detailed engineering drawings to manufacture bespoke sheet metal and HVAC/ventilation components.
- Customer Interaction: Greet clients visiting the workshop, assist with technical inquiries, take job details, and process occasional upfront payments.
- Quality & Safety: Maintain high standards of workmanship, ensure jobs leave the workshop on time, and enforce workshop health and safety protocols.
Key Requirements
- Strong, practical background in sheet metal fabrication and specialized ventilation layout.
- Proficient with workshop machinery (press brakes, guillotines, plasma tables); familiarity with CAD software (e.g., CAMduct) is highly advantageous.
- Ability to accurately read, work from, and explain detailed technical drawings to others.
- Natural leadership capability with a supportive, lead-by-example approach.
- Full UK driving licence or forklift truck (FLT) licence is desirable, but not essential.
- Previous experience as a Lead Fabricator, Chargehand, or Workshop Supervisor is preferred.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary package negotiable based on experience.
- Consistent, regular hours (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Mon–Fri).
- Overtime opportunities.
- Company pension scheme and annual leave allowance.
Selection Process
Please note that our recruitment process may include a short practical workshop assessment to evaluate bench skills and technical familiarity alongside the formal interview.
